Uhh, i'm working on a Matrix game based on the movie, although it might run slow because i'm making this first version (v1.2) in BASIC, but i'm planning to make (v1.4) in assembly, its gonig to be basically the same thnig, but it's going to run much more faster, if you have n/e ideas or comments please let me know, and i'll do what i can, oh and yes i'm planning on making bullet time in this game. This release date for this game is so far unknown, it depends how many things i put in the game.

I am almost finished with my huge upgrade of my pretty popular (maybe you'll laugh if I say that I think a game with 850 downloads is popular) TI-83+ game Snake Forever 2. Snake Forever 3 is everything (I mean it) you need if you think the perfect game is a Snake-inspired, BASIC-programmed amateur-game! It's a very big game with tons of modes and levels and ways of having fun (it is required that you think that snake-games CAN be at least a little bit fun). It's biggest weaknesses is that it's sometimes pretty slow and that it takes up a lot of RAM-memory. But, I do promise, it's a very good game. I have used at least 40 hours of my free-time to program all the functions, levels and statistics in and after each play. So I really hope you'll like it, please give it a try.

850 is good for only having been there about 2 months, as opposed to like 5 years. BTW it's great to see all this participation on this board...might have actually inspired me to work more on my 83+ BASIC stuff again...

I agree. It does make you wanna write some more "good" BASIC games. I think that once i'm done with AQUATIONS and that AI CHESS I'm going to concentrate my free time on some seriouse games. Not the stupid little games that I'v previously made. The problem is, I hate RPG's so I really don't want to make any. What other type of games are fun to play on Calculators? I'm thinking of making a couple of boardgames, maybe some card games. But that's all I got. Anyway, If anyone has some ideas for good basic games, I'd like to hear them.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Upcoming TI-83 Plus Games

I don't hate RPG's in general, just RPG's that are inanely difficult and/or incredibly long. I know there are people who dedicate the kind of time in a game like that to get really good, but most people just like a semi-short/medium game with a fairly easy difficulty to play while they are in algebra. I write RPG's when I get bored, but the major one I've written (Zelda) is only a semi-RPG, as it involves several other elements. I consider it fairly original and fun, and I still enjoy playing it, as opposed to the cheesy RPG engine I wrote and the slow BASIC fighter programs I and others have written.

Well, heres a question for ya. What exactly do you find fun in RPG's? For some reason I just can't find anything about them entertaining. It's just redundent if you ask me. But then again, you didn't so i'll just shut up now.

I'd have to say the only (out of many) RPG's that I've played and ever liked, Is super mario RPG. Mostly because of it's first of a kind graphics and the sheer sillyness of it. But Nothing was particularly entertaining. Do so many people make RPG's just because they're easy to program?

     4 December 2003, 01:45 GMT

On the contrary...
dabud15 Account Info

You can't just say that RPG's are easy to program. You have to realize the amount of work involved. An RPG that is easy to program will be relativly short and lack the cool stuff that an RPG, that is difficult to program, would have. (idk if that sentence made any sense or not). A difficult RPG to make will have more items, larger world map, more characters, more towns, more spells, more............whatever! If you make an RPG that is easy to make, it will end up not having enough stuff. That means that the stuff that you DO have in it will get repetative.

Just an opinion,
~dabud15

Re: On the contrary...
JAKAS  Account Info

What I meant was that the basic designs are easy. There's not as many intuitive programming required. It's pretty much If, Then, add something to a Variable. It's easy code that you can simply walk through and understand all of it. Now actually deciding how the game is played, what techniques there are, items, statistics, plot... Now that's where it get's complicated. I think RPG's are the hardest to create in that sense. Anyway, If you were to ask me what my point is... I have no idea.

Blah, making RPG's = Hard
Merthsoft  Account Info

RPG's are hard as HELL to make (pardon my language). The hardest part is really skills and battle, that's where I'm stuck on my program, but I've decided to not work much on it for two reasons:
1.My port is broken, so in order to put it on the comp, and another calc.
2.No one took any interest in it (not as big a deal as the first one)
Well, there's my two cents.

Well, if you want to make games like phenox then youre going to need to know assembly. If ,in fact, you do know assembly then I don't know of any good compilers. Just look around on google or something.

Ok, to lock a game from being edited, you'll need to get a program like TI-Graph Link. The problem is that it is still possible to open it on ANY computer with TI-Graph link and edit it. But, if it's staying on a calculator, then definately get TI-Graph link. Plus that way you get to put your stuff online easier.

He he he. funny. Well, You have to start somewhere right? Well that's where the manual comes in. But the manual can't do anything for you if you wan't to make quality stuff. All of the basics are in the manual, but over time ya just pick up little tips and tricks and how to use them effectivly. But if you were to ask me, I'd say it's all about experience. and if you wanna learn about lists and matrices, then the manual's the place to go.

About that stupid chess idea... Not going to happen, there are just way to many damn possible moves. I "could" do it, but it would take so long it's not worth it. But it will help with making other AI games.

First of all, good luck with writing and games if you just learned what the store button is. You'd have better luck with a math program or something.

Anyway, I had a lot of problems getting it to work too. first of all, I didn't know they had a black USB cable for the calculator. Are you positive that it's USB? second, double check all the connections (that sometimes is all it is). third, just try switching between the black and gray cable (in the settings menu). for instance, My cable is noticably black, but it only works on the gray option. fourth, make sure that you've selected com port one. If none of that works, then i can't help ya.

And just in case, the arrow=store to a variable, list, matrix, or whatever. and the O thing=Theta which is just another variable like A-Z.

JAKAS- he didn't say he had a black USB cable, he just said he had a USb cable with a black calc. Ti-Graphlink doesn't work with the USB cable because it sends at a different speed. You need Ti-Connect (latet version 1.2.1). Download from TI's site.

Well, it ruins your games because mirage is being buggy with basic games, so dont try to play your games from mirage. If it is other games you are having trouble with, delete your mirage application and then send the latest version of mirage to your calc.
