Same here. But I'm gonna use my 89 'cause the TI-89 RULES.

Me too. I have an 83+ SE as well, so unless TI comes out with something better than the 68k calcs, I'm going to stick with my 89.

Yeah, maybe with a 15'' TFT color screen, 256MB Flash memory and 200MHz processor ;)

That would be nice :) The drawback is that it would make PocketPCs look inexpensive. 200MHz processors are pretty recent in handhelds, and are also pricy...about $300 to $350 if it were in a calculator with a color screen and with 256 megabytes of Flash.

Yes, a colour screen is not a bad idea, the only problem are the batteries...
I've a TI-83 plus and a TI-89, of course the i'll keep my TI-89 unless something better comes

Use a battery similar to the ones in cell phones... I'd like one in my 83+... I don't like when my batteries run out in the middle of a major test... :(
But still... can't afford a new... $139 is a wee bit much for a calc, even if it rocks!

Are you talking about this worm that goes around and shuts off your computer? Sounds scary, lol.

Well, yes, for now they do(... but let's wait for the next HP calc that will hopefully come out.. rumors indicate that it will include a 75Mhz processor... along with infrared and usb connectivity...

(disclaimer: I have and use a TI-89 and 82...)

That is right. The ti-89 can do so much calculus work, is the best for it's size, and so many things are available for it. Schools should buy these instead of ones that suck.

It's probably because of that reason that they some schools don't like them. They can do all that calculus, they can simply and solve almost any equation, they can pretty much do anything. I think the reason they don't approve of them is because they want students to learn on their own without having the calculator do all of the work for them. (But I still love the TI-89)

well... you know, since the creation of a few certain programs, and from some stuff that came with them, the 83s can do just about anything an 89 can, such as solving. but, your average teacher (or, all of my teachers, at least) is oblivious to that fact... my teachers have, for the most part, never seen an 89 before, and when they try to clear the memory, they have to ask me how ;)

They make you clear the memory? Haha.. just store everything in the archive and just clear the RAM. They won't know the difference.

Anyway, can the TI-83+SE do derivates and integrals in pretty print? Can it factor/expand? There are probably hidden features or apps for the TI-83+SE that I don't know about that can do all the fancy stuff that the TI-89 can, but if they wipe the RAM and archive for the TI-83+SE, then the extra programs can't help. I think that's really mean to wipe somebody's memory on their calculator before a test. What if they have something important on there? Like a program they've been working on and couldn't back up becuase their parents hogged the computer? (My hypothetical situations suck, but you get the point)

Well... I thought I heard of a pretty print program for the 83 series, or 83+ or something, but indeed there are things that haven't been copied yet. And as for your sucky hypothetical situation... that happened once. I tried just clearing the ram after archiving the large and complex, very important BASIC program that I spent too much time on, but my friend... "told on me". He thought it would be funny to make me lose the program *makes an angry fist*... he never made that mistake again.

I'd like to get some more calcs! Unfortunately, they cost money. ;-) Of course, if my mom just happened to buy me another, I couldn't complain. :)

well if your mom does buy you one it's gonna be one of those 4-function calcs!! and she'll say "but I thought it was better because the number was higher! You have a TI-89 but this says a TI-108!!!" :-)

My mom knows enough to get a TI graphing calculator that I can program on, usually a newer one. Since she's a math teacher, she has just enough knowledge to know which ones that I'd probably want :)

my mom would probably end up bringing home a casio or something... and my dad would probably get an hp, because he's an engineer, so he's not totally stupid in the calculator world...

Well, my mom knows about TI... but doesn't know anything about Casio or HP, and she knows what calcs I'm interested in, so I think if she did get me one, it would be good :D

Let's hope I don't need a new one. I made the crackhead blunder of letting the batteries run out when I was in the middle of an OS upgrade for my 83+. Now my computer can't send the OS to the calc, so I'll just have to hope I can download it from another calc.

I don't know about the 83+ but if that was an 89 you would have to use a computer if the OS transfer was interupted, a regular calc to calc won't work.

If you have an older copy of the TI-Connect (I assume thats what your using) install file, re-install it with that file. It will upgrade your calc under the current situations. Again only if the 83+ is handled like the 89. If you don't have a copy of the file, talk to TI.

To the best of my knowledge, the newer OS's can't send or recieve the calc OS on the 83+. Maybe that was just 1.14...
