I already have an 83+, want to get an SE for the storage (NOT just for games, I only have 7 games on now and I hardly ever play them (even at school)).

You could get a 83+ SE, but if you have the money, a 89 is much better. It has the same flash memory as the 83 SE but has more ram and lots of otehr stuff too.

Yeah, the 89 is one of the most powerful TI calcs, the V200 beats it because its enormouse (sp) FLASH Rom of nearly 2.7 MB allows tons of third party programs and Flash Apps (which I only use one or two).

that's what i keep telling andysoft (i actually kow him in real life). Janata, get an 89! it's much better! you'd be the only person in school with one (everyone who had one graduated, and after the class of 2003 no one (not even no_one, he's not at our school anyway) is allowed to use them in actual math class.)

Just how many of us actually know another significant member of ticalc personally (as in, in real life, not online)?

Well, I know somebody who has an account here, but I think the last time he used it was a loooooong time ago. Well, either that, or he just doesn't go to the message boards.

I only know one person: timgisme. You may have seen him around, but he's more of a windows/mac programmer (and hacker).

Well, I have one friend who goes here (I told him about the site), but I doubt he has an account or anything, he just downloads games.

Even so, my math teacher did bring up this site on the smartboard in class one day... so other people I know might go here, but I think they would only go to download games. I seem to be the only one really interested in programming and such. Besides, you have to go here for a while before you get comfortable with the way things work and stuff, then you start to know people on the boards...

My math 181 teacher use VTI! I can't believe it, she also owns all of the TI graphing calculators, has all of the Roms for VTI, and she knows how to use them! She will also let you use any of them on her tests in the second part of the test! This is so great. She also has this digital blackboard that will pick up taps on it ans translate the taps into mouse clicks relative to the computer screen. She was showing the whole class how to use the 86 By projecting the computer screen onto this Board. ITs soooo cool!

...and no, I'm not "interested" in her for all of those out there that may think so.

<scary music>
How do you know I'm not in your school?
</scary music>

Well, I'm not, because our school allows TI-89s. (I'm very grateful)

Most techars at my school couldn't tell the difference between a 4-fuction and a v200 (not tghe honors teachers, of course).

And I keep telling you I don't care! I'm not spending $150 of my hard-earned money on something that I can't use at school. $135 or so for something that I can use, and that I already know the way around, and with a lot more memory, and with some pre-loaded apps, is within the ballpark.

"Same Flash memory"?
TI-83+ SE Flash memory: 1.2 MB
TI-89 Flash memory: 512 KB

I'm not saying the 83+SE is better, just that it has more Flash memory.

You're forgetting something. The SE OS is about 540k or so. (I can never remember.) Yet the 89's is 1208k. (Give or take...) Then there's the 1500k free on the SE (1200k or so with the pre-loaded stuff), and 702k on the 89. (It actually says 639k or something because of a few k of excess coding the in the OS. I dunno how it works, but yeah. The memory's there, just not usable.) Sidenote: k=1024 for this. So the 89 and SE have roughly the same Flash memory.

I think I did that right... I'm too tired to care, so someone correct if I'm wrong on stuff.

I know the hardware/software specs of each. The SE would just be more practical for me at this time.

I don't need a new one when the school requires ti-83 and I have ti-86 so I can do just about anything I need and more. It's a good thing our teachers don't care about what kind of calculator we have as long as we know how to use it or what programs we have on it.

I lubu 89. Nothing will make me part with it, unless it's a high-powered laptop for free. Not even that, I guess.
