They've seemed to forgotten the answer saying "I want one really bad, but mom won't let me" ;-)

I want a iBook 'really bad'. 'Tis a humble request. But, alas, my wallet still won't let me - It groans whenever I open it!

The polycarb. (pretty white) one. But affording it is slightly out of my league at the moment, and adding an extra £100 for the insurance.

Needless to say, top of the range would be nice, but Power books are no good (wrong colour). But, that all stands for nothing anyway.

I have an older late 2001 model iBook, top of the line model then, and its served me well since then. Its gonna be replaced with a G5 when it comes.

Heck yeah, especially with Panther. It is supposed to be 64-bit. More power to Mac, aka PowerMac. the best computers in the world. I have the funds to get a 15.2' PowerBook right now. Do you think I should wait untill the G5 is released in the PowerBooks?

Panther when it is released will be 32-bit with some 64-bit support. You will have to wait a bit longer for the new OS.

I thought it would be all 64-bit, oh well. Do you think I should wait untill Apple releases the G5 in the PowerBook before I go and buy one? I'm only in a "rush" because I want a portable PC for school and personal use. If I knew for sure that Apple would be releaseing or saying that the PowerBooks will get the G5 with in a certain time period, I would wait.

The last comment I read concerning it was a passing comment, so not to reliable.
"If they manage to fit the G5 into a laptop".

So it looks like there is no specific date set out at all. Shame, but at a guess it wont be to long after the desktops get the G5 that powerbooks will. Beginning next year? Just a guess though.

No problem, Its just I can predict what apple will do nowadays, because I learned the hard way with my iBook. I just can't wait for my G5 to ship (September 16).

MacAddicts web site says G5 PowerBooks at MWSF 2004. They can fit in 1 in the 15 and 12 in. models, possibly 2 in the 17 in. I'm getting a power book soon, but I'm gonna wait for a G5 17 in. powerbook, because I need the power and display space for audio and DTP work.

You'd be better off getting a desktop for serious work. Laptops are just for portability and working when you can't get to a desktop. I would suggest a G5 desktop for work and a slightly cheaper smaller laptop (17" is a hell of a lot to be moving around).
Unless you have the spare cash then spend it and enjoy it. I will just sit here jealously.

Yeah, plus in comparison the mid line G5 PowerMac is a heck of a lot better deal than the mid line G4 PowerMac. When you have the cash too you can upgrade the G5 PowerMac beyond your wildest dreams.

Can never tell if this is pure bitter sarcasm or that you really are to young to remember the world of Desktop Top Publishing. So I shall explain anyway.
Ever wondered why nearly all professional printing places use Macs? 'Cos they are the best for DTP, always have been. Desktop Publishing is the art of formatting a page of text with images inserted. ie MS Word is a DTP package and NOT a word processor. In fact it is very hard to get a word processor these days, and even harder to get a decent DTP package.

I've heard of Desktop Publishing but not the acronym for it. Thanks. I'me rarely sarcastic on here, otherwise I make it obvious.

Macs Rule!!!

Yeah. The G5 is cool, but I'm not to impressed with Apple's perforated-front flagship tower. Yeah, the perforations are for airflow, but it is still ugly (at least in pics). And it only has one internal optical drive (although I use a new iMac G4 [flatscreen], and I use one optical drive).
