Who cares about this fall? On the same day that I found out my provincial exam (Canadian province-wide exam for grade 12 classes) mark for math 12 was 94% (and me in grade 11, and 16 years old), I rushed over to london drugs with my bank card and money from a returned pair of sandals (a gift, a very nice one), and bought a TI-89. AMS rocks!! As I will have to wait a year untill my next math class in colledge, still will be usefull.

One rant down, who knows how many to go.

If you like math, you'll be going nuts if you don't do some mathematics in your year off. Good luck, you mad a wise purchase.

He could do some programming with his 89 on his year off...we could always use some creative programs.

actually, one of the reasons I bought it was because it would be good to learn C on (maybe). I have heard something about an on-calc C compiler for the 68ks, any idea where I can find it?

I haven't heard a thing about an on-calc complier, but that's just me. I wouldn't use one anyway, I really need the help files to help me find functions. *shrug* There's the obvious TIGCC, of course, which would do much better than an on-calc anyway. :/

I've heard of one. But I can't remember what it was called, and I never tried it, so I'm not much help, now am I?

Go check calc.org's archives. I know its one of the first few programs listed. You actually need the Assembly compiler because the C program converts the C code into Assembly.

Thanks a lot. For all interested, get AS and CC at the bottom of this site, or wherever, and probably sIDE, haven't tried it yet.

Now see. Boredom isn't all that bad, it promotes curiosity to go through a whole list of site for no apparent reason and who knows you might find something interesting. Boredom rules! It is the ultimate inspiration!

I have enough calcs...must get computers...

I didnt really *NEED* to get a new one since I had a 85 and an edited 83 (email me if you're THAT curious) but since those two really arent up to speed on flash apps, memory, etc... I had to get an 83+ silver :) this calc rocks

all TI propoganda to sell more to pre-68k students. An 83 is all you need for high school, and a plus is nice for games, but a silver edition is downright glutonus. I remeber, I was in this math contest, all the rich kids in the rich kids school had silver editions, everyone else had an 83+, and was probably quite happy with it. Still, extra speed, more memory.... hmmm....

I had pen and paper.

Guess who could do maths & arithmetic more quickly!

Nah, I've got an 83, an 86, and an 89. I don't need any more, and if I bring anything else home that has silicon in it, my girlfriend will castrate me.

I'm sure if you explain the silicon fettish is nothing to do with her she will understand.

Believe it or not, thats probably the reason. Just don't go to the beach, thats the location of most of the silicon in the world. I don't know what the source is but sand is Silicon dioxide.

The source of sand? That is just rock that has been ground down over the years. All rocks are varients of SiO2.

Source for silicon for chips. Many impurities in rocks converted to sand are removed during the breaking up and errosion of the sea. I see sea! Say that to a blind man.

I believe the silicon for wafers is from sand. There doesn't seem to be much reason not to refine sand for silicon, as it should be too hard to de-oxygenise a substance. Don't know for sure, but I may be able to find out.

Apparantly SiO2 + 2C -> 2CO +Si
so a relatively pure form of silicon can be obtained from sand. The following is quote from the site I got this info from...
"We learned in thermodynamics that the universe seems to want to go to a disordered state of what we called high entropy."

I hate people like this. 'The universe is disordered.' 'Humans are perfect and what we believe must be right!' WTF - we are but a small part of this universe, and it knows what is ordered an damn site better than any of us.

Sorry, but that attitude really does get up my skirt (in a figurative way).

I don't even wear a skirt and I agree with you... I was once forced to watch a chemistry video narrated by the guy (what's his name...?) from Magnum PI... Human's aren't perfect, and anyone who claims they are... I'm not gonna go there (I sparked a bit of an argument last time I said it). But I think that the idea of "what we believe must be right!" comes from the feelings of insecurity of a few brilliant minds who, after studying the light from stars for a few years, came up with a few sketchy and unproven mathematical equations that somehow show the universe is going to collapse on itself. My teacher then explained the ideas to the class as fact... Sure it was a startling revelation, but it was backed up by only part of the visible light spectrum and the idea of dark matter... w00! well if there's dark matter, they can't be wrong!... right?

Ad ignorem, appeal form ignorance (only under special circumstances). If humans are perfect, why doo they die? Why do they get disease? Why are we still "evolving"? Why do we not all have the same abilities? Perfection-nothing is wrong, if one person has one flaw, humans are not perfect! THERE ARE TOO MANY STUPID PEOPLE ON THE PLANET! (Hey look, I have a skirt/kilt too :) )
