AMS 2.08 Released
Posted by Eric on 19 August 2002, 07:10 GMT
TI has recently released AMS 2.08 for the TI-89 and the Voyage 200. The new version includes added features such as more trig commands and a novel idea TI is referring to as "clack functionality" (yes, kiddos, I believe that should be "clock"). Anyway, give it a try. On another note, I've decided to officially retire from ticalc.org, due to massive workloads and such. It's been interesting, but three years is about long enough, anyway. We're currently in the process of deciding how to proceed, so please don't flood our mailboxes volunteering your help just yet, thanks. Update (Eric): Ok, it appears that TI has recalled AMS 2.08 due to errors with the Black Graph Link cable and TI-Connect.

Is It actually worth the Upgrade or just more Restrictions.

If you would rather keep time by your TI-92 Plus instead of your wristwatch, or would really love an icon menu, then you need to upgrade. Otherwise, probably not.
There aren't any more restrictions that I have noticed, but the ASM program size limit is still there. This isn't a huge problem anymore. Compatibility seems quite high; of 26 nostub programs I tried, 25 worked (if you use a shell that launches PPGs itself, since some PPG programs come with launchers that are not compatible with AMS > 2.05).
For kernel-based programs, most of those should work also, and if you have HW1 you can even go on using UniversalOS. If you have HW2, though, you need the newer PreOS, and you have to use the TSR version (with H220xTSR 1.10) since there is no HW2Patch for this AMS.

I seriously doubt that PPG programs in general won't work. I have tested quite a few (not including TICT Explorer) and found that 100% of them work. In alphabetical order: Corridor92 2.1, Duke68K 1.01, Explorer 1.00, FlashZ Bomberman 1.00, Insane Game 1.1, Krypton 0.4, Mercury 0.05, Monster 0.83, Othello II 2.5, Platinum Edition 1.01, Rodent Revenge 0.5, SkiFree 0.7, Tetris 1.50, TI-Chess 3.60, TI-Minesweeper 1.1, TI-Pang 1.00, V-Rally 1.00.
For those that give the "Invalid Relocation Data..." error, you can just use the newest version of TTStart to launch them, or use the Explorer shell by Flavien Racine (which requires you to copy TTStart on the calculator by hand, but with it you no longer need to type out the command each time).
