AMS 2.08 Released
Posted by Eric on 19 August 2002, 07:10 GMT

TI has recently released AMS 2.08 for the TI-89 and the Voyage 200. The new version includes added features such as more trig commands and a novel idea TI is referring to as "clack functionality" (yes, kiddos, I believe that should be "clock"). Anyway, give it a try.

On another note, I've decided to officially retire from ticalc.org, due to massive workloads and such. It's been interesting, but three years is about long enough, anyway. We're currently in the process of deciding how to proceed, so please don't flood our mailboxes volunteering your help just yet, thanks.

Update (Eric): Ok, it appears that TI has recalled AMS 2.08 due to errors with the Black Graph Link cable and TI-Connect.

Also does everyone know about the emulator by ti that comes with a rom image so everyone can play games without a calculator, legally!? theres info about it at my site, http://83p.tigalaxy.com/ on the hardware.html page(link to it from downloads page). We were talking about Compuwiz's web-page link. He thought that www.billgatesisanerd.com might be a site.

So does the clock function make your batteries drain faster? Even a tiny little bit faster? I would think it would take a bit of power to keep time even when the calculator is off.

Yes... it does use more battery power to keep the time, someone on the forums on the tinews website calculated that "Every 3 months, you are using 39 seconds of battery power" for the clock...

I also have a question: If TI was to release an AMS 3.XX (hypothetically) then it wouldn't be compatible with the AMS 2.XX?

w00t!
About time for a new ti89 os! (is it really for the 89?)
Sad, that he's retiring.
59th comment!
Again: Is it REALLY for the 89?
I'll have to go and check!

Will it make my ID number change? That will make my _free_ (ti did a giveaway a while ago) cellsheet thing useless! Oh well, I never use it anyway.

ha...ha..ha... keep your pants on LoL, i wouldn't upgrade if I were... Its just plain horrible, all my games don't work anymore, and it drains more batteries for the clock to be on... I'm downgrading back to 2.05 right now...

Are your games shell or nostub?
Use rechargeable batteries! The initial investment is large, but the payoff is largely larger.
Can you turn the clock off? (Maybe it's too late to ask, speaking of clocks.)

yes you can turn it off, but that makes upgrading pointless since the desktop thing is kind of retarded... 70 kb less archive available and a few k less RAM

1/sin for csc
1/cos for sec
1/tan for cot
About 5 seconds to make on my own.

yes, but when you've been out of math classes for 3 months you have trouble remembering if it's 1/sin or 1/asin bleh... this is so much more convinient, and you're less likely to mess up

I don't know where the asin came from ...
Anyway, I only have an 86, so this little update doesn't help me much. As for messing up, it's not likely to happen. The inverse functions have been hammered into my head. And they're going to stay there.

I dislike shells because:
- Many times (in my experience) the last byte in a program gets modified or deleted, turning your happy little ASM into an EXPR that is 7583 bytes long.
- You have to have the libraries, something which I cannot always do.
- I program in Nostub.
- I think that although shared routines are the answer, shells are not.

and, most importantly:
- I don't play games, which use a lot of the same routines repeatedly--the exact precondition that must exist for a shell to be of use.
Instead I use tict-explorer, which is much more suited to my needs than any shell.

The battery drain is not noticeable at all...Over 3 months it might mean that your batteries die a day sooner than without a clock.
