Vacation Times
Posted by Henrik on 28 June 2002, 22:00 GMT

It is vacation times for the ticalc.org staff. Being based in the northern hemisphere, we will enjoy summer. I know at least some of us will do some extensive travelling around the globe. Due to this, pending files will grow, help mail will be answered with greater delay, and not much new will happen for a month or two.

The ticalc.org staff wishes all our visitors a good summer (or winter if you are below the equator) and hope you all understand we all need some vacation.

Tell us about your own vacation plans below.

What about...

So I got in my car and I drove over to the donut shop
And I walked on up to the guy behind the counter
And he says "Yeah, what do ya want?"
I said "You got any glazed donuts?"
He said "No, we're outta glazed donuts"
I said "Well, you got any jelly donuts?"
He said "No, we're outta jelly donuts"
I said "You got any Bavarian cream-filled donuts?"
He said "No, we're outta Bavarian cream-filled donuts"
I said "You got any cinnamon rolls?"
He said "No, we're outta cinnamon rolls"
I said "You got any apple fritters?"
He said "No, we're outta apple fritters"
I said "You got any bear claws?"
He said "Wait a minute, I'll go check""No, we're outta bear claws"
I said "Well, in that case - in that case, what do you have?"
He says "All I got right now is this box of one dozen starving, crazed weasels"
I said "OK, I'll take that"

This summer, I will probably go on vacation :) and I will of course program my calc :-p . Currently I am working on an ASM version of Doors XP, a **MULTITASKING!!** GUI interface that autodetects ASM, SOS, Ash, and BASIC programs. It includes an incredibly fast mouse program and drivers for connecting a real (!!) mouse through the linkport. It is very similar to Windows XP, with a start menu, My Documents and My Pictures folders, Word XP and Excel XP, and many other incredibly cool programs such as Media Player XP that can play music! This program will be a major breakthrough in TI shells, and can be used as an alternative to the TI-OS. Once run for the first time, it can shutdown, restart, and includes the option of a secure, integrated, uncrackable password protection program. It allows multiple usernames with separate preferences for each user. Respond or email me at Kerm_Martian@yahoo.com if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions. It can multitask up to 4 programs at once! It can even make temporary interrupt programs so that a number crunching program can run while you are playing a game!

Coming September 2002 to a calculator near you...

that's great and all but, what platforms will this be on? I am assuming either 83+ (probably will have to be the SE for memory limitations) or the 89/92+, but many people will want to know.

so, the winner is.....(drum roll).....

It could be for the Ti-83 Plus(no SE). Just save the data and arcive it and the program for the multitasking.

Hey, that sounds REALLY funny!!! a multitasking doors with mouse support...ON AN 83!!! HAHAHA!!! who would want to modify a mouse to commect to a calculator so they can play "computer"? clicking a button is much simpler and takes a lot less energy from you and your calc. Do you think the 83 can support multitasking? I have an 89 and the multitasking progs I've seen suck! it's not necessary, it makes the calc just run slower, and there isn't enough to do on a calculator to need multitasking. on a computer you use it for doing antivirus, registration, music, video, chat, and games. on the calc you just calculate, play games, and program.

Secondly, the mouse feature that you make so much fun of is an optional extra and is not normally active; the arrow keys are the default.

Thirdly and finally, the multitasking apportions out processor time in such a way that the calculator does not slow down enough to be noticeable, so there!

Okay, I'm done ranting at you.

I won't download it until you take all those "XP"s out of the description and name. Yes, I will have Windows XP on my comp in college, but I'll only use it to play Warcraft III (coming out July 3rd!! MMORPGs rock!!) and to boot Red Hat.

The reason I am calling it Doors XP is that the interface looks almost _exactly_ like that of Windows XP by Microsoft.

Ok this really pisses me off. All of your BASIc programs are in Micro$haft Word docs. Why not just post it as a *.8xp or *.83p? You wanker. At least release a beta version of this. Prove that it works. I'm pesimistic of this. I bet you are using the TSE 1.6 source code for this. XPee
