TI Keyboard: More Information Released
Posted by Eric on 16 June 2002, 08:40 GMT

TI has finally released new information on something that should have come out many years ago, the TI Keyboard. The keyboard, which runs on 3 AAA batteries and contains many nifty features such as compatibility with Microsoft Word, will be available in the fall.

TI Keyboard- w00t!
benryves Account Info
(Web Page)

Neat...
Shame about the price and the fact you cannot use it 100% on the TI-83 Plus-that would have been very neat indeed. I think I will stick with the QWERTY app- OK, it isn't the greatest way to type, but it is quite easy. I could even try to make my own keyboard (StampII...) but it would never look quite as nice as the official TI one!

And I bet the TI keyboard works better than this PC one on this school computer- k, t and the space bar don't work unless you hit them really hard!

What next- the 'TI-Mouse'?

Mouse, or better yet a memory expander. 1.5 Megabytes on my SE just isn't enough.

What the... 1.5 MB isn't enough? I have over 20 apps and about 97 games, groups of all those games (in case they crash the calc, I can just ungroup them...) and I still have about 500k left!

I only have about 30 games, mostly asm but a few basic (you see, I don't download crap...) about 20 levels for mario, dozens of other miscellaneous programs, a 9kb LIST, and the equivilant of 30 16k apps (some of them are 32, 48 or 64k) And I actually have about 750k left. I don't need a *flash rom* expander, I'm probably never going to fill that up. What they need to make is just a normal, plain old boring memory expansion. (On a slightly different note, related to another article, more memory would allow them to compete even better with the PDA market...)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ONLINE PETITION FOR TI-86+

Just thought I would point out, for a certain few people who signed this petition: this isn't the way to get TI to listen to you. If you were to write up a petition properly - using proper grammar - and had serious, respectful signatures, they would have no choice but to listen. On the other hand, what you have done - no offense intended to those involved - cannot possibly be taken seriously. I'm sure TI is well aware that some of us would like to see them continue the 86, and I'm sure they're also aware that some people view them as "dumbasses" and the rest. They just as clearly don't care. So make a proper petition - I'll support it. Just recognize that when you want someone (especially when the entity in question has money) to do you a favor, insulting them is not the way to go about it.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to those of you who signed the petition properly, which fortunately was most of you...

I'd also like to point out that whoever thinks it's funny to post rude messages in others' names - I can't fathom what you gain by it, but don't mind my opinion - you're a coward. If that's what you want to say, there's no need to be ashamed of it. Go ahead and say whatever you want in your own name; I don't care.

why is it that people like you have to say shit like "you guys are just bitches why not get an 89 has alot of memory"?

not everbody has the money or a need to get an 89.

I have an 89, 83+, and 82. When OS 1.13 came out for the 83+, over half the comments were from assholes like you. "The higher the fersion number the better you said." I say, "The higher the version number, the more f***ed up the original was."

As for the 86+ petition, take it seriosly, though I would never take an online petition seriosly, it doesn't help to insult the people you want the help from. Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

Have a nice day.

Doom!
benryves Account Info
(Web Page)

It is a truly great game- just a few things-
The game should be a little more decisive (calling it Doom and then using Wolf3D graphics is a bit off). Other problems are the mystically disappearing walls and the fact that you can be shot when you cannot see the person shooting you as you are too far away. The walls sometimes flip (as in the lines will go from the top of one wall to the bottom of the next- I have had this problem when writing wireframe engines on my PC).
But, give the guy some credit- it is still in development and is the first of its kind for a z80 based calculator - well done that man!

Yeah, I know. However, since I downloaded, I've had major problems with my calc so I took it off. There were things where when I restored memory it would make the programs take up over 30k each, say error:memory when I wanted to edit my memory, and when I switched modes, the same kind of things happened.

"1.5MB just isn't enough"

I have not yet filled my 160kB archive on my TI-83 Plus- though I have had trouble with installing apps (if you have less than 32k left, you cannot install a 16k app- I don't know why!).

Count yourself lucky- most people here still use the 83- just 27k of RAM!

Oh, to go to the 'IR-Link' page and you can find schematics for a unit that plugs into a calc and stores data (using the standard 'Link' feature of the OS) on a 1M PlayStation memory cateridge.

How do you attached a playstation memory cartridge to your ti89 calc? I can't find schematics anywhere.

The IR link uses a PIC as a controller. I have never made one (I really don't have the time or effort) and cannot find any PlayStation memory cards anywhere.

I would post the link to the site, but the way I get to the page is a little strange, and the way I do it doesn't work for me.

What I normally do is go to the link above (click the 'Web Page' button) and that takes you to the IRLink page. If you look around the page there is a navigation bar to the left (I think...) where you can get the instructions for the device. You will have to look yourself- everytime I try to get to the IRLink page I get an HTTP 504 error from Novell BorderManager (it does that occasionally to random sites- just wait half an hour and the site magically reappears!), so I cannot post the definate link. If I can at all get the link I will post it as a reply to this message.

All the best of luck if you attempt the project (why couldn't they supply PCB transparencies? I'd have to make it on stripboard or make my own PCB- and I don't think we have a PIC hex compiler here...)

What kind of stuff are you putting on your SE that you need MORE memory? And there's no reason, now with all of this Graph Link stuff, to leave more than a few essentials on your calculator at once. The processor speed and free CellSheet are the real key features.

Do you have a driver for the 83+ (NOT the SE)? I have one those ancient DIN plug keyboards- if I use the PS/2 adapter on it, would that work?

The SE driver should work for the 83+...The problem really with the keyboard is someone (I don't care enough to do so at the moment) needs to write a good word processor for it.

I'd say the best way to make a keyboard is make it have two modes, one where the keyboard handles the keys and send the keypress to the Ti-OS GetKey routine and a remote keypress (as Remote Control program does) and another mode which is similar to direct input which would require the driver to be in the program...

How bout a keyboard with a cradle adapter, but also have a standard RS-232 port and an extra battery pack.
Also make the keyboard with extra link ports so that several people could plug in at the same time and access built-in memory storage and programs.
Also have built-in IR control for cross-classroom chatting and whiteboarding (yea, cheating).

(this $.02 document inflated to $1.95)
