Joey Gannon Joins the Dark Side
Posted by Michael on 13 January 2004, 22:41 GMT

We are sorry to report that Joey Gannon, our hard-working file archiver, has been seen participating in the notorious RPN cult. This is the same group that is infamous for the Sliderule Massacres of '71. Oaths of secrecy prevent information from disseminating to the public, but the mystical letters RPN are rumored to stand for Really Poor Notation, though this is unconfirmed. Members have been known to do odd things in the name of Al-Gebra, their sacred way of math.

No one knows why he may have done this. One psychologist we interviewed stated, "There are many reasons why an individual would suddenly dissociate from previous beliefs." He was not of much help. Our other file archiver, Morgan, experienced no signs of mental distress, commenting: "What did Joey do!? WHAT??? He always seemed like such a good kid!"

ticalc.org readers in Maine have written to report seeing Joey dressed in black robes and performing a calculator sacrifice. His only comment was, "Oportet ministros manus lavare antequam latrinam relinquent. When I burn the calculator, my world becomes the calculator. I must go find a Voyage 200 now so that my long journey to enlightenment may begin."

no!

Oportet ministros manus lavare antequam latrinam relinquent.

I think that's, "it behooves the minister to wash his hands before he leaves the bathroom" or something similar. I'm unsure, as I haven't started doing my Latin homework for the day. Oh well....

"no" meaning fire is not good if it involves letting the magic smoke out from a semiconductor.

Semiconductors work with smoke. When the electronics starts to emit smoke, then you know it's broken and leaking.

It makes perfect sense. Now don't confuse causation and association :).

So, then it is not a magical 81 God? Oh well. I will start dreaming of something else.

Ahh, but ritual inhalation counteracts that. The power of an 81, and the power of the dark spirit combined makes... a dark spirit that can add pretty big numbers, yeah.

Especially since he used a thermite reaction, lots and lots of fire, fire, fire, fire, fire *slap* Hu? Oh, very good idea to do that on bricks to make sure it wouldn't set the ground on fire. Who ever did that knew what they were doing...fire, fire, fire, fire *slap* ...

That would be cool, except that it's VERY illegal to have francium, and the supplies of it are small and controlled. Sodium is almost as fun, and legal. :-)

Sodium, Lithium, and Potassium all undergo a similar reaction (I especially prefer Potassium because it not only burns but explodes). Really, anything from that period (except Hydrogen) would work if you could get it...

yeah, thats is exactly why they are stored in oil. K is awsome, but there is no way I'm getting near more than a half a cubic centmeter of it withouth the porper protection.

you might confuse people by using the word "period." Periods run horizontal, the word you were looking for is group or family. And i dont think lithium works either, i think it just melts when it hits the water and doesnt do much.

The inherent value in TI's first graphing calculator is more than enough to save it from fire, I think. If it was a TI-73 Explorer, or a TI-89 (if you could afford it), then I say sure, fire it.

No! If your TI 89 gets destroyed, you'd be compeled to buy a new one, and then you'd have a perfectly good reason to get a TI 89Ti. (since you need a new one anyway...)
