Joey Gannon Joins the Dark Side
Posted by Michael on 13 January 2004, 22:41 GMT

We are sorry to report that Joey Gannon, our hard-working file archiver, has been seen participating in the notorious RPN cult. This is the same group that is infamous for the Sliderule Massacres of '71. Oaths of secrecy prevent information from disseminating to the public, but the mystical letters RPN are rumored to stand for Really Poor Notation, though this is unconfirmed. Members have been known to do odd things in the name of Al-Gebra, their sacred way of math.

No one knows why he may have done this. One psychologist we interviewed stated, "There are many reasons why an individual would suddenly dissociate from previous beliefs." He was not of much help. Our other file archiver, Morgan, experienced no signs of mental distress, commenting: "What did Joey do!? WHAT??? He always seemed like such a good kid!"

ticalc.org readers in Maine have written to report seeing Joey dressed in black robes and performing a calculator sacrifice. His only comment was, "Oportet ministros manus lavare antequam latrinam relinquent. When I burn the calculator, my world becomes the calculator. I must go find a Voyage 200 now so that my long journey to enlightenment may begin."

All you need is rust and alluminium.

To make the rust is easy. All you need is two nails, salt water, a 4.5v wall plug (or other similarly small voltage). Take the wall plug and strip it to expose the wires. Wrap each wire around each nail, and placew apart in the cup of salt water. plug in and wait.

Then you need to use an indrustrial file to file some alluminium and you are pretty much set.

The only thing left to do is to figure out the correct misture of the rust and alluminium. THat i have no clue about. Not to mention where to get the mg strip.

Electricty + Water == Dangerous... right? I'm really not in the mood to electrocute myself, are you sure sticking 4.5v into water is a safe idea?

Man, 4.5 V is nothing. You couldn't hurt yourself with it if you tried. (Unless it was 4.5 V, 1000 A, which no battery can supply).

I've used a 6V wall plug to collect Hydrogen and Oxygen in a water bottle (boy, did it take a long time!), then I put fins and a model rocket engine on it and launched it.

It made a nice little BOOM and bright white explosion when the engine's ejection charge blew.

Oh yeah, 4.5V in water is safe, by the way. I've never used 120V directly from the outlet, but if I did I'd use an isolation transformer just to be safe.

I was doing some reseach through google on making thermite, and apparently it's used to make home-made bombs. In the horror of being thought of as the next unibomber, I renounce any liability to my previous post.

Seriously, this isn't a joke. The sites I found make me scared :C I don't think I'll be blowing up my Macintosh SE/30 any longer.

Hmmm... I just realized I don't know what "RPN" is. So to get to the point of this post:

What the crap is RPN?!?!

It's used on some HP calculators as a more efficient means of entering equations. It basically uses the principle of a stack to make calculations faster.

It's like the metric system in the US....more efficient, but no one's used to using it...
