Fire Track 2 for 83+
Posted by Michael on 10 January 2004, 02:16 GMT

[Fire Track 2]Benjamin Ryves has released Fire Track 2, based on the original Fire Track BBC Micro game. Besides the classic gameplay, his version features an "extended" mode with randomly generated levels and powerups: EMP, laser, shield, time freezer, kamikaze, and speed. This game appears to be very well planned out in its detail, and is available in both Ion and MirageOS versions.

Yay! They featured one of Ben Ryves' games! (Excuse any possible misspellings in your name) He's made some pretty good games in the past. Check out his website.
I think it's benryves.com. Something like that. Only problem is, I don't actually own a TI-83+ (or a 83+SE, or a 84+, or a 84+SE...)

Do you have an 83?
I'm currently developing the 83 port -- in fact, the 83 version went out to the testers this morning!

Why do you have to 'port' the game to a regular 83? I mean, when programming the game for Ion, you can compile for both the TI-83 and the TI-83+.

I don't work that way ;)
I use customised ion.inc and mirage.inc files that only address the ion functions.
For the 83 version, I've had to add a few routines, like "_memset", and have had difficulty finding some of the addresses for certain ROM calls.
Apart from a contrast issue, the 83 version is nearly done...

O, and of course, this looks great to me. As I only got the regular 83, I'm waiting for the port! There should be more assembly games for the regular TI-83 and/or TI-83+...

There are. Currently, TI-83+ is the most popular programming platform, right above TI-89.

I should have included that in the list-- no, I don't have a TI-83. However, I could play it on a friend's TI-83+, if they would let me.

Oh, well, I think it sounds better to say "an 83+" rather than "a 83+." But if you just add TI- to the beginning, then I guess it really doesn't matter. A TI-83+.

POSSIBLE?
I'm trying to make something like what's on the 89 Grapher for this site, (top left), using 3D Grapher on my 83+. How can I make a similar 3D object/graph?

What's the POSSIBLE for?
Sure, FT2 is possible on the 83 - I've done a version already and am just awaiting the testers response.

Wait... if you're so happy that a game came out for the TI-83+, then why are you running the game on VTI? That leads me to assume that you don't have one, which makes me wonder why you'd want to bash the TI-89 users. And yes, you better start running. ;-)

Oooh, I see. Well, you could do what I did a long time ago with my Win95 w/o plug and play. Get onto the "Shut Down Computer" screen and switch the mouse with the TI plug. Hit Enter to restart your computer.
Your computer will start back up, probably with some kind of "You do not have a mouse plugged in" message. Get into TI-Graph Link (yes, it is hard) with the keyboard. Send the program... switch the ports, restart the computer. Yes, it is a pain. I don't recommend it.

Yeah, there is. I, personally, don't like it, because I find it to be a pain. Using the regular keyboard controls is easier than that, imo.

VTI 2.5 can't handle APPS properly, and VTI 3 beta can handle APPS but can't install normal programs?? How can someone run Assembly programs made for MirageOS in VTI? (Without uploading a new ROM all the time?)

AS I read it, there is an ION version. VTI is perfectly capable of using ION.

Flash debugger gives me grief ;)
I use VTI and Ion, and my calc to test the MOS version.
Most of my programs only ever use the Ion routines anyway.

since I only develop apps, I use the debugger.

It's also good for disassembling TIOS (hasn't everyone tried that :)

Seriously... The keyboard for the flash simulator can't handle multiple keypresses, or even holding down a key properly.
