Gemini RT3D game released for the TI-83 Plus
Posted by Niklas on 21 August 2002, 22:08 GMT

Hans Törnqvist has released Gemini, a real-time 3D raycasting game for the TI-83 and TI-83 Plus (available for Ion and MirageOS ). Features include a background story (!), textures, pushable walls and various enemies, items and weapons, all packed in a huge 23Kb program file.

Also included is some documentation on how to use this game's engine for your own game as well as a discussion of programming methods, shortcuts, and general tips for other programmers. :)

Update (Niklas): A TI-83 version has been added to the archives.

Wow, looks good!

Not for 86 ... I personnally think that Unreal Tournament is the only FPS for the 86, even though it's in BASIC.
But you're right about less traffic for the 83/+ versions.

Really? It's the only FPS? Cool!

I'm pretty sure it is ... I know in the Assembly section Maze3D is the closest thing (but it's only a raycasting engine). I'm not too sure about the BASIC section, but I've never seen a FPS in there.

There is a TI-85 game called Daedulus http://www.ticalc.org/archives/
files/fileinfo/11/1147.html

It is a FPS (although small) but still awesome for a calculator!

This will run on the 86 with YAS or a TI-85 emulator :)

I downloaded the program, but can't seem to get it to work on my TI-86, maybe you can help...
I first tried Rascal 0.9, it showed up, but the description said "Program too big" and wouldn't run it.
I then tried YAS, but I couldn't get it to show up at all in there, so I tried the iShell enhancement, with no luck.

Is there something else I need to do, besides just sending the files to my calc? Do I need a different shell, or is there a good program for emulating the TI-85?

Thanks for your help,

DanCo

You could try VTI if you happen to have a TI-85 ROM ....

Well, yeah, but that doesn't help me much when I'm away from my computer (which, now that I have a laptop, isn't all that often...). =)

Hrm, Try it with YAS 0.94 and mark any external strings as external by pressing x-var then 2nd to mark any strings that the Daedlus program uses (if it uses any i cant remember). Also free up room on your calc for it so you have at least 2-3k free. That should allow you to run the program.

OFF TOPIC:
Is it just me, or do the three fonts for the TI-92 have different characters?

i.e. the small font's last 8 or so characters are icons for statistics graph modes, and the large font's last 8 or so are just black squares?

Has anyone else noticed this?

it may or may not be the same on the TI-92+.

Whoa... weird. I think I should try testing that on my TI-89.

Ok, I've heard how the TI-83+ SE (I have one) has more ram than the regular 83 plus, but it can't normally use the extra ram? Why is this and how (if possible) can I change it?

Yes I have heard this too and would like to know the answer (I'm also a TI-83 plus SE owner)

I had to return my TI-83+ because it just started to randomly reset RAM, and also there was a white line across the screen, and a blob of condensed liquid crystal in the screen.

P.S.- I don't abuse my calc either!!
