Back on Telia
Posted by Magnus on 30 May 2002, 10:47 GMT

In preparations for the possible (probable?) death of KPNQwest, ticalc.org has been temporarily moved back to the old Telia connection. This will once again cauase short downtimes as DNS servers refresh, and it will cause the speed to go back to what it was before.

This is a temporary solution. Final solution will be made sometime after we know for sure what will happen to KPNQwest.

Update (Magnus): KPNQwest has now died. The future of their network and customer contracts are still unknown.

TimeZone stuff confuses me. Like, what if you were standing with one leg in one time zone, and your other leg in another time zone? What time would it be then, if you were perfectly symmetrical and centered over it?

You can never be perfectly centered, there will be at least one extra atom on one side :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Back on Telia

then what if you took a hydrogen 2 (one proton, one neutron) atom and placed it exactly in the middle?
I guess you could then call it halfway between and be a half hour off each time zone.

Pronouns, electrons, and neutrons all have very slightly different masses. Thus it's still not equal :)

Well, if you aligned a proton and a neutron vertically (with their horizontal centers aligned) like this:
(I'm not sure how well this will show up)
O
.
then if you place them along the border such that the line through their centers is exactly in the same place as the border, then they will be perfectly halfway on each side, despite having different masses.

Ah but that will only occur when the two particles pass each other in their movements...The majority of the time they are not in that formation, and thus the mass is unequal.

I just read an article about a guy who came up with a new theory for the creation of the Earth and he said that according to the Big Bang theory, omega is always driven away from 1. Currently, omega is within ten percent of one (one is a flat universe). That means that omega would have had to be between .999999999999999 and 1.000000000000001 when the Big Bang occured. What he said was that omega was actually going closer to 1, making a flat universe inevitable.
Also, if omega is more than 1, then two light beams that start off parallel will eventually diverge. If it's less than one, they will eventually intersect.
I just thought I'd share that with you.
SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I think I remember that one, from Discover Magazine.
The reason is the same as why earth's surface appears flat, but is actually rounded. As the universe got bigger, it appeared flatter, so omega is getting closer to 1. And I think it's called expansionist theory, or something along those lines.
