AMS v2.04 for TI-89 and TI-92+ Released
Posted by Eric on 7 June 2000, 23:51 GMT

Reno notified us that TI has recently released the new version of the TI-89/92+ internal software. The new version includes an increased RAM limit for ASM programs (8K to 24K), language improvements, and other enhancements. Download AMS v2.04 for the TI-89 and TI-92+.

Update (Nick): I will say this once and once only:
IF YOU PUT AMS V2.04 ON YOUR CALCULATOR, WE HOLD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY TO ANY FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PROGRAMS YOU DOWNLOAD FROM THIS SITE. VERY FEW, IF ANY, ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS, WILL PROBABLY WORK. TI HAS BEEN KNOWN TO DECREASE COMPATIBILITY WITH EVERY SINGLE ROM VERSION AND THEIR "ENHANCEMENTS" USUALLY MEAN THAT ASSEMBLY PROGRAM LIMITATIONS HAVE BEEN PUT IN. DO NOT ASK US WHEN AUTHORS WILL PUT IN SUPPORT FOR V2.04: THAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHORS ALONE.
Thank you. :)

Update (Nathan): Okay, I know everyone's too lazy to do it themselves, so I'll just say that I upgraded to AMS 2.04, and DoorsOS II v0.96 installs, but doesn't work (Address error when trying to run Doors). Patrick Davidson informed us that Universal OS works perfectly under this crazy new AMS version, but only under hardware v1.00. So now you've been warned, and as usual, we don't want to hear about it if your programs don't work. Ask the authors, not us. Thank you. :)

Update Purple Monkey Dishwasher (Nick): I've gotten about six or seven emails that this ROM version in fact does transfer over successfully with a black link. Some people were, however, complaining about speed issues.

Double Update Action (Nick): Matt Baum gave me an email showing a brief list of programs and their functionality under this new AMS. It might be of help to some of you.

Hmmmm. 24 K is still less than 64 K that we had in
AMS 1.05. So, the hackers will try again to break this limit. And this will lead again to delaying of SDK.
I will try to upgrade to 2.04 to see how Tezxas work on it. It does not depend of Doors.

what ? tezxas runs on any rom ? I though tezxas was only for rom1 !! I always wanted to test that on my 2.03 calc.

HW1+AMS 1.xx, HW1+AMS 2.xx and HW2+AMS 1.xx are OK.
It only does not work on HW2+AMS 2.03 combination although it is enough to add only a few assembly instructions to enable it.

AMS v2.04 works fine w/ TI-92+ and Teos

Ok...I was tired of dooros because many of the games had little defects in them and they never used to. Example: Jezzball v1.8-w/ dooros the score only comes up on the first level. W/ Teos it works great. All of my ASM games (7) work just like always with AMS 2.04. But I really don't see that big of a reason to change AMS, but I reall haven't looked to what changes have been made. I only checked to see if my games worked.
Ryan
P.S. If anyone needs the old AMS I have
AMS v1.05 and AMS v2.03

Sadly, this is representing much of the replies... some people want games, some math. What we have here is people talking whether programs are compatible, not whether math is better! Just don't say it isn't worth it because one thing doesn't work, the other might be a lot better! Apparently, though, not that much... I still want LINUX on my TI!!!!!!!!!!

Who's not ready to have linux on the calc? We want that stability (No more "Address Error" on the top of our screens!!!). You think LInus would side with us TI junkies?

Damn straight! Microshaft did this to guys like him, so he created Linux. I only pray to whatever deity it is that blesses us calc junkies that they'll do a Linux 89!

Pray with me Brotheren (and Sistern)!!!

Please don't flame me about religion or bad puns! Thanx!

But would we be able to amke a Linux kernal small enough to fit on a calc without losing too much room for games and stuff and still have a GUI?

Rip out the crap^H^H^H^Hstuff you don't need, and the kernel's actually pretty small.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I'm just shaky about upgrading, since I have quite a few math programs in assembly/C...

just curious of what math asm programs u have, the archives on TICALC dont have many at all..and the ones that are there are pretty much about fractals :-)

I just have this ASM factoring program because BASIC is too slow, a calendar (dunno if that can be qualified as a math program), and... uh... sorry, I don't have my calculator with me, but there's a few more. But it's ok, since they're all nostub programs, so I guess I'll upgrade because nostub programs seem to work on 2.04.

Uhh, don't mind me asking, but a factoring program on an 89? What about the factor(expr) command? I doubt that using asm would be fast enough to justify the wasted time and risk of crashing that asm brings to the calculator...I think we're dealing here with microseconds.

You don't understand what I'm saying. Sorry, I should have clarified. It's an INTEGRAL factoring program, which returns {1,2,4,5,10,20} when inputting factors(20). And trust me, it's a heck of a lot faster than basic, because i have the basic version of it as well, and it takes over 2 minutes to do factors(9999) whereas factors in ASM takes less than five seconds.

Ahh, I see. What kind of algorithms are you using though? Hmm, this would sound like an interesting project for me.. I bet it would be fast to use factor() and then parse it and multiply every combination of numbers. If you were already doing this and it took two minutes though....

Hmm, maybe I should finish my current projects first. I'm about done with the internals for a triangle solver. I was making it because just about every triangle solver I download has errors. The only thing I have left to do is set up a system for two sides and one angle opposite one of them..it was screwing up because the sin inverse gives 0-90, not 0-180, but I think I have an idea of how to fix this. I also was working on a BASIC pacman project...the level editor is done and the character can move around the screen pretty quickly, but it will take some good thinking to get the ghost algorithm done (I might just learn asm this summer and do it that way). Don't you just love programming?

Does anybody know why the hell they called it ADVANCED Math Software ?
I wonder it is not censorware... Nothing advanced in that :(

WHAT ? it is advanced !! it's Derive !!! the most common and improtant math software of this world. It only takes 400kb of memory and it's very powerful
The problem is that Derive is VERY old...(except the new one) Ams is based on the old Derive. TI sould optimize their code NOW!

If anyone wants an older rom version just email me and i'll send it to you.

I have for the 89:
AMS 1.00
AMS 1.05
AMS 2.03

I have for the 92+:
AMS 2.03

P.S. If anyone has AMS 1.05 for the 92+ please email it to me, so i can have for a complete collection of roms for what ever may happen

How about 2.02? I'm kind of curious, since I have never heard of it before I saw it on TI's website...
