AMS v2.04 for TI-89 and TI-92+ Released
Posted by Eric on 7 June 2000, 23:51 GMT

Reno notified us that TI has recently released the new version of the TI-89/92+ internal software. The new version includes an increased RAM limit for ASM programs (8K to 24K), language improvements, and other enhancements. Download AMS v2.04 for the TI-89 and TI-92+.

Update (Nick): I will say this once and once only:
IF YOU PUT AMS V2.04 ON YOUR CALCULATOR, WE HOLD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY TO ANY FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PROGRAMS YOU DOWNLOAD FROM THIS SITE. VERY FEW, IF ANY, ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS, WILL PROBABLY WORK. TI HAS BEEN KNOWN TO DECREASE COMPATIBILITY WITH EVERY SINGLE ROM VERSION AND THEIR "ENHANCEMENTS" USUALLY MEAN THAT ASSEMBLY PROGRAM LIMITATIONS HAVE BEEN PUT IN. DO NOT ASK US WHEN AUTHORS WILL PUT IN SUPPORT FOR V2.04: THAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHORS ALONE.
Thank you. :)

Update (Nathan): Okay, I know everyone's too lazy to do it themselves, so I'll just say that I upgraded to AMS 2.04, and DoorsOS II v0.96 installs, but doesn't work (Address error when trying to run Doors). Patrick Davidson informed us that Universal OS works perfectly under this crazy new AMS version, but only under hardware v1.00. So now you've been warned, and as usual, we don't want to hear about it if your programs don't work. Ask the authors, not us. Thank you. :)

Update Purple Monkey Dishwasher (Nick): I've gotten about six or seven emails that this ROM version in fact does transfer over successfully with a black link. Some people were, however, complaining about speed issues.

Double Update Action (Nick): Matt Baum gave me an email showing a brief list of programs and their functionality under this new AMS. It might be of help to some of you.

What"s up with this? I clicked the link, but there is no link to an AMS 2.04... Is this site messed up, or is it TI???

Well, try to "update" the page. (F5 if you use IE)
But I know there are sometimes errors on ti's website, so if it doesn't work, try to open the page several times.

By saying that here, you've probably boosted the hit counter of his/her website by double what it was before... ;-)

You can imagine how tired that poor little "(Web Page)" link must be from being clicked on so much...

OK, OK. I'll be quiet now. :-)

Hmmm, cool. I hope the next version of VTI will allow software upgrades like this to the ROMs via virtual link.

You don't have to wait for VTI to recieve the upgrade over the virtual link. With VTI beta 5, it can read the ROM file on your computer directly! Simply put the ti89base.89u file into VTI's directory on your hard drive, then close and restart VTI. Right click the calculator, choose "Set Calculator/ROM version," and choose 2.04 (update). Isn't VTI wonderful?!

Just a quick question-- anybody actually d/l the new AMS and see if it has any real benefits over AMS 2.03? Thanks!

I guess that's because everyone's too scared that their programs won't work :-P

It would be really funny if no one downloaded it... like ever... TI would be so confused!

No one does download it, as far as they can see. Maybe 10 people get it before they put it on ticalc.org... then everyone downloads it from here. We steal their hits! Yay!

AMS 2.03 is a lot slower than AMS 1.00 in drawing stuff on the screen. TI must have made a stupid mistake in their drawing functions in 2.03, but they fixed it in 2.04, so 2.04 is back to being as fast as 1.00! TI goes around in circles...

I recall hearing a software called ParallelLinkFlashSender for the 89, and It worked pretty well. I could not find it anymore though, I know someone mentioned it many times after the release of AMS 2.03 . Go check that article out if Ticalc didn't delete it.

Run 2.04 on VTI, then right click and choose "enable parallel link," then hook your calc up to the link and have VTI send the upgrade as if you were upgrading from another calc.

Has anyone noticed the message on the page: "This free upgrade replaces your existing operating system. This update increases RAM limit for ASM programs from 8 K bytes to 24 K bytes, improves language localization, and contains enhancements to support future Calculator Software Application development. To be able to install multiple Calculator Software Applications you must have at least version 2.01." or the one that was there before that: "This free upgrade replaces your existing operating system (i.e. Advanced Mathematics Software (ASM) Version 1.0, 1.05, 2.01, 2.02, 2.03 or EE·Pro 1.0 Operating systems). Version 2.04 enables you to install multiple Calculator Software Applications." Notice how the infamous AMS 2.01 and 2.02 are mentioned? I thought TI did not develop these? What's up? I wonder what other goodies TI has been holding out from us...

2.01 were released shortly before 2.03 was released. Well, technically, 2.01 was never actually released. They were leaked from TI to some person, He was french, i think, and he distrubuited it. I even e-mailed TI asking what was 2.01, and they said that it was a third party ROM that was never authorized and install at your own risk. There is an article: "AMS 2.01 released" in the huge article database on Ticalc. It was between the months of November and December of 1999

Prior to AMS 2.0x, in order to install a "FlashApp," you had re-install the entire OS. Thus EE*Pro had to be written into the OS, and distributed as part of it.
