A Pretty Perplexing Plethora of Perspicacious Programs
Posted by Nick on 22 October 1999, 00:31 GMT

A bevy of programs has been released under Ion (AGAIN!) for the 83 and 83 Plus in the past day or so by Sam Heald of Void Productions.

In no logical order:

FrAWgGuts v1.0: This game is not unlike the classic Frogger for the old Atari systems. You need to navigate a frog across a busy highway and onto a safe lilypad. You can download it for the 83 and 83 Plus.

Z-Kart 3D v1.0: This game is a port of the classic Z-Kart 3D game for the 85. Download it for the 83 and 83 Plus.

Z-Kart v1.0: This game is like Z-Kart 3D, except... uh, less 3-D :) It's featured in the screenshot above. You can snag this for the 83 and 83 Plus.

Picross v1.0: My personal favorite, this game is ported from the game by Andreas Ess. You need to form a predetermined picture in a limited amount of time using logic. 83 and 83 Plus versions exist.

Pac-Man '99 v0.5: This game is... well, Pac-Man. I don't think I need to elaborate further. 83 and 83 Plus.

Galaxian v1.0: Galaxian is a game like Space Invaders and Phoenix. Get it here for the 83 and 83 Plus.

*phew* :)

First comment is always a plus. Hey, instead of prog. for that p.o.s. calc. why not make some games for the 89? We could really use a good racing game.

I am not going to flame the porters of the, beacuse it's only the FIRST Ion versions ( plus they dont deserve it). But here are the problems with them:

I tried them all, and I did'nt download the 83 version dont worry.

The 3-D recing game did not work, it cleared my RAM, not to worry I Archived everything before I dowloaded them.

The Regular racing game worked fine, and is really nice.

The Frog Guts game didnt work becuase once you get after the road you get killed automaticlly, no matter if there's a car or not.

PLEASE do not flame the porters for this, you should expect this from Assembley games. And also beacuse I would like to have more games for my calculator, instaed of proters boycotting.

About Zkart 3d:
Supposedly, the bug doesn't when you race at the highest speed, which is why I didn't find it when I tested. I appologize for not testing it thoroughly enough.

About FrAWgGuts:
After the road, you are supposed to hop onto the lillie pads. For some reason, the obstacles in every other line don't move. Oddly, it was working two days :(

I'll fix both tonight...

Ok I dont appreciate your comments, you are the type of person who makes programmers want to stop programming, so I suggest you just stop with the comments if you expect to get any games any time soon for the ti 89. But anyways thanks alot to the people who have just recently ported 6 games to the ti 83 plus, keep up the good work!!!

har har... TI-89's and 86's RULE (compared to anything with a smaller number and the TI-92/+ since you can't use 'em on the tests that count:P) but on the other hand they suck compared to a Sony Vaio PCG-C1X Picturebook (the coolest laptop I've ever seen)

BTW could somebody port a basic version of the quadratic formula to the TI-89...

JUST KIDDING! *ducks as flames erupt around him, burning his message to crisp and flambeing his subject...*

That is merely your perception.
Perhaps the programmer prefers to code on the 83.

Okay, a comment coming from someone who does not own an 83+ but uses one on a regular basis: Calling the 83+ a P.O.S is uncalled for, you're stooping down to the same level of those disrespectful folk who begged and sometimes threatened programmers to program for the 83+. I am sorry for the programmers who were targeted by these people and I hope everyone can return to an unbiased state of mind. The 83+, like each and every calculator, has it's own weaknesses and advantages. The 83/83+ are very easy to use and are perfect for 8th to 10th graders depending on their math class. The 86 is basically the ease of use that the 83/83+ have and the power and menu based system of the 85. The 92/92+ are great for advanced users and have the most advanced programs. The 89 is undoubtably the most advanced calculator but in a handheld design. I won't rant anymore, just wanted to say that I like every calc, but especially my trusty 86 ;)

89 users already have good enough games. Play your mario and zelda and wait for something to come along.

My guess is you don't have an 89. First of all I have played Zelda. Any one could beat it in 2 min. It is hardly finished. The graphics are good, but not much gameplay worth (right now). Secondly, Mario is not a good game for an 89. It was made for the 92 and it shows. The screen is too small. You can't tell when an enemy is coming. You should have mentioned Phoenix and BigDyna. Those are the best 89 games there are.
On the subject of the 83's, I prefer the 'old school' model (regular 83). This is probably due to the fact that it was my first Graphing Calc, and it will always rule.

*sob* we don't have pong for the 89... except for the crappy one... no I'm not insulting it, it's CraPong:P Let me restate, we don't have 2 player link pong, and our arkanoid is slow as beans (okay, bad analogy) although other versions of it are a bit better.

BUT WE HAVE SF2 (although I had to buy a TI Expander 2 to have emergency backup files at all times so I can load up and unload games:P)

What do you mean p.o.s. calculator. Just because the ti 89 calc is better in many ways does not mean it is completly better. There are advantages and disadvantages between both. Don't start flames.

It may not be forever you know.Ti-83+ programs are growing fast in number and you all might develop some better functions than us Ti-89ers.

Yes we will if we all get better screens, replace the old ones with them, and make the os use them properly. So now what are you going to say to prove me wrong.

YO see why are you posting here. You are an 89 user not an 83 or 83+.You know nothing about them.Sure I would like a racing game for the 89,I am an 89 user not an 83 user I also can program for the other calcs which only own one other an 86,but dont ask them to port one or program one, that just slows proggrammers up i know i am one.If it any consolation we here at sychosoft are going to start on a racing game for the 89 after we finish our current projects(Saiyans,Not even close to a beta maybe an alpha*,and Cartman TI,I have it finished but it has a bug where it will erase the mem some times)
*-The alpha will not be released to the public only to certain sites so that they can see a preview and maybe write a preview, the finished copy will take two weeks after the beta is developed and tested.
Our site has not been updated and has a few dead links and messed up pages but please visit it.
