TI announces TI-83 Plus graphing calculator
Posted on 11 January 1999, 22:18 GMT
Texas Instruments has announced the TI-83 Plus graphing calculator. This is an upgradable calculator designed for high school and lower level university math and science courses. The TI-83 Plus includes all the features of the TI-83, and adds these features: - Flash ROM technology
- 160K built-in Flash ROM (user data archive)
- New applications developed by TI and other educational software developers
The TI-83 Plus is expected to cost about $5 or $10 more than the TI-83 and should be available this spring.

Kind of off the subjuct: TI-73

Sorry, but this is off the subject...
Does anyone know if Asm will be on the TI-73! I have been just have to know. I am guessing that it is possible because asm is on the 82, 82, & 92. These calcs did not have them built in. So, is anybody trying to make something asm for the 73? Does anybody EVEN have a 73?
If you people had a choice, would you buy the TI-73 or the TI-83 (not the plus)?
I am just wondering!
Thanks!!

No, you can't have assembly programs on your TI 73. The TI 73 hasn't a enough powerful processor to manage external assembly programs. Have a look in differents internet programs archives. They shows only Basic programs. The TI 73 has a build-in assembly language, but only for its ROM.
But, if someone hack the calculator to allows importing assembly programs, there will be a lot of games (the language is different as TI 82 or TI85 #:0
Note : leave the TI 73 and buy the TI 83+. It's 100 times better and it allows external assembly programs (games!!!). Simply, the TI 73 is for youger users...(I have a TI 82 and, later, a TI 89, but when I had only the TI 82, I was in the sky ... :)

I think that hardware should matter more then software, and for those who say that the technology is there, I say its there but do they use it well, no for example the winmodem, the celeron cpu also windows. These things are not a progress for the best, (because of the worlds veiws of money), people think for themselfs (to rip off others) instead of thinking of making a good product less money, they will then get even more customers. Oh dont tell me life is like that,
its the easy, cheating way. Oh and yet everybody expects the best out of you in some point in life, but only for them not others(when they should, example job).
anyway back to the subject-oh ya this ti83+ idea sucks

I think it is a good idea for TI. However, I won't be buying a 83+. Less user memory? What is that all about. I have never heard of Flash-Rom before, but it sounds like a good idea. Here is my idea of the perfect calculator.
:lots of memory (at least 90k user)
:86's resolution
:83's menus (i hate the 85 and 86's)
:this flash rom thing
:83's list options and statistics
note:I don't have a clue what the 89 is like
i bought an 83 at the beginning of this school year and it works just fine for math. in fact, for certain topics, our teacher won't let us use anything above the 83. btw, all of these calculators are good and you can't blame ti for coming out with new stuff all of the time, of course they will, it is a business

This is the calculator equivalent of penis envy. "My TI-83 is better than your TI-83" "Look at my keys they are bigger than your keys" "I have more storage space is larger than your storage space"
If you thought it was bad before, wait til the 83+ comes out. Hopefully it goes without notice like the TI-73. I could give a flying fart about Flash ROM on an 83.

I don't even care about this TI-83+. I never use CBR/CBL anyway. And top of everything, TI-83+ has 24K of memory. What is TI thinking? What are you gonna do with that shitty little memory? Even 27K on TI-83 is not enough (at least for me).

All right, the FLASH ROM is supposed to be ROM, but the fact that it is somehow "flashable" ..eh, I wouldn't want to have my calculator flash me..anyway. The fact that it is flashable, ie writable-to, indicates that it COULD be used for data storage. Of course, the wisdom of putting your data in what serves as ROM is up to you people...then again, it's possible that that memory area is just that, a data archive, that can be /partially/ filled with a flashed ROM upgrade. Not actually a ROM upgrade, if you think about it, just a patch to the OS that changes how things are read and interpreted (as opposed to the TI-OS from true ROM being patched, hardware upgraded.) If this doesn't make much sense, sorry.

There is the possiblity of a color TI calculator.
It's rumored that down in TI, a TI-96 is in production. I expect that the 96 will be tons better than any 92+ and there will be more complaining and swearing and such when a 96+ comes. Just thought I'd let you know.

What about Game Boy?

Was there this much negative response when Nintendo brought out the Game Boy Pocket? It was just old obsolete hardware in a prettier package right? A new marketing scheme? The Game Boy was doing quite well, people, and so Nintendo thought they'd upgrade it since it had been 5 years and they could make a much smaller and more efficient system to do the same thing. I bought one =).

This gameboy-thing came to my mind, too.
And i gotta say, I hate they released so many "different" gameboys. They were all basically the same, except for different covers. There was original gameboy, then similar with color covers, then gameboy pocket, and i guess even one more model. Now there's gameboy color, which is the only true new model. I don't know why it took them so long to make color model. also, in pictures, these gameboy color games look imo even worse than original gameboy games. small amount of colors, maybe... i hope TI will put up this new model with color screen, but let's hope it's not going to be like in casio, in three colors. This ain't no game machine(well, to most of us it actually is:) but at least 16 colors should be in.
Anyway, it's getting crowded here and i'm getting pissed. everyone is blaiming each other for no reason and everyone is saying the same things. I'm tired of browsing here, I hope TIcalc will put up new News soon...
