Kirk Meyer ends his TI programming career
Posted on 24 October 1998, 20:43 GMT

I, Kirk Meyer, have permanently retired from all coding of calculators and computers. Some great changes have happened in my life such that these items are no longer at the top of my list, and never will be again. With that in mind, I will be releasing most, if not all, of my source code to the public. Note that I will attempt to finish Cymbol because I realize how many people need it. Realize that this does not mean that I will retire from the staff here; I hope to continue to work for ticalc.org at least through the end of high school. I will be revising my web page soon to reflect these changes and give you some more information.

Kirk: I don't know you or what you've done in the past but I think that you made a mistake in the way you've announced your resignation. You left waaay to much open for ppl to interpret as extreme things. You should have left more information or less information

There's just some religous quote. Are you becoming a monk/priest or something?

No, and also I'm not Catholic. That "religious quote" is my confirmation verse, and it has been on my web page all along. This event has inspired me to write a poem, and that is what is on the web page, as well as my music.

Re: Re: Re: Kirk is no longer very interested in computers or calculators

What is this 20 questions? Why the big secret? The poem says basically "A lone guy was fishing, he snagged a big fish, the fish pulled him under the water". I don't get it. I'm guessing you're the fisherman, but what the f**k does fish stand for. You mean like you were a fisherman using your calculator games as bait, but now you are a fish simply playing the games? The last line completely lost me.

Ferris Bueller

"A lone guy was fishing, he snagged a big fish, the fish pulled him under the water" is translated to "I was programming, and when I was programming Monopoly the company pulled me down." Just a theory

I think the last line means that he got married. That would be a very significant change in his life.

If you're referring to the meaning of the poem, then no. This is not to say that I am not religious, but I was for quite some time before I took up computers and calculators.

Boggy

This guy is a freaking wierdo!!!! He is a mooney or something, I guess calculators are a sin now. Kirk, do yourself a favor and join a mass suicidal cult.

Re: Kirk Meyer ends his TI programming career
:-(

I am sorry, but Kirk should at least give the TI Community a reason for this sudden change of heart in his philosophies. I do not care what Kirk did, but I would like to know what was so profound that it changed his life. So profound that that he did not continue a skill he his great at and has delighted countless of students everywhere.

I don't think that he owes us anything. Kirk, you have added so much to the Community and I think that a lot of guys on the page are just plain rude. I wish you the best of luck in what ever you do, and thanks for all og the great calculator programs

No need to feel pity for me, for I am quite happy. Now then, for the last time! This is NOT related to drugs or religion. Furthermore, I have a right to keep my personal life private. I could have just released all of the source code and not said anything, but I thought I should tell the TI community. Don't make me regret it.
