Re: Have you ever been caught playing calculator games in class?

At my high school in Oregon, I am in AP calc and havea ti-89. My calculus teacher told the class that he would be teaching the other teachers at the school how to reset the ti-89 (which everyone in our calculus class was supposed to have) because the other teachers were complaining that all the kids did with their calculators was play games in class. My physics teacher doesn't care though. He saw me playing my calc one day and came over and asked "What level are you on?" while laughing and then walked away. I play games all the time in physics and my teacher never cares. But my calculus teacher does, and besides telling other teachers how to reset the ti-89, he doubles your homework assignment if he catches you playing in his calculus class.
Just my 2 cents on this issue

I am in trig and the school has ti-92's that they let us use. We also have the over-head view screen attachments that connect to the calculators. I sit in the middle row right in front, so the teacher usually connects the view screen to my calculator. One day, I had been playing Tetris and we had a quiz. I have a ti-86 too, and the quiz was easy, so I paused the tetris game, alowed the APD to shut off the calculator, and used my 86. After the quiz, the teacher started going over the homework for the day and pluged the view screen in to my calculator. I turned it on (i forgot about the tetris game), and there, for everyone to see was the middle of a tetris game. The teacher didn't get mad, but he never connects the view screen to my calculator anymore. It was pretty funny.

I've only been caught (that is where the teacher made me stop) once. Other times, I've had a teacher come up to me, ask what games I have, and actually started playing it for a while himself.
But I ussually used to play it in Math...Teacher knows I program my calc, so she used to see me, think I'm programming, and ignore me...while yelling at other kids for playing games...hehe.

I have been caought a couple of times bit that was the end of it, I was just told to put my calc away. One of my friends though, had his RAM erased three diffrent times in the same class period. The teacher did not realize that on an 83+, things stored in the archive and groups have be cleared seperatly. By the third time it was pretty funny. Does the 92+ have the same archive and group feature also? (heh heh heh)

7 out of 8 of my teachers don't give a darn. My Geometry teacher will take away both calcs and the link connecting them if you try to link up. If you finish your homework in class (every single day -- she's too drunk to give us much homework!), she lets you play games, no matter how obvious you make it seem that you are playing games. You could play 2 player Baseball 99 against someone on the other side of the room and pass the calcs back & forth and she wouldn't care. Some of the people in our class are complete idiots, however, and will make a grunt of frustration every time something bad happens. She takes 'em away of course. I have had my calc taken away in 7th grade, right after I got my calc. I was playing games on it (lame BASIC ones), and she (lame Alg teacher - subbing for ordinary math teacher - 5 letter word) took it away & gave it back to me after class. she didn't even reset the mem! It's easy not to get caught--I don't stay focused on school very easily.

I couldn't count how many times high school teachers caught me on a calulator. In that period of time, I ate, Drank, and Breathed Ti-calc programming. And they all knew I was programming games. A lot of my teachers were really Spiteful because of the KCHS Punisher though. Of course in this day and age, If they ever caught me programming the KCHS Punisher in high school they could have me expelled for showing school shooter tendancies or something.
