Well, I'm pretty happy with my TI-86. The games are good, nothing too great, but why do you need the most advanced games when the screens are only about 2 Square inches? Anyway, as long as games such as Arkanoid and Mario are there, I don't need much more. Also, I once borrowed a friend's 89, and that thing is very complicated! I've stopped playing games pretty much because I'm trying to bring my grades up and playing games on my calculator translates to C's and D's. Not good.

Anyway, the TI-86 is simple, easy to use, has pretty good functionality (it better for over $100!) and I like it!

Damn you! You sent my whole world crashing down when you said a 2 square inch screen. I always thought of it as much more, now I'm a loser, I've spent countless hours staring into a 2 square in screen. AAARRRRGGGG!! :)

Sorry about that, but that's all it is, a two inch screen. Oh, but that two inch screen can play some really fun games, just not any realy high tech games. It doesn't seem so small though, just like a television set looks so much bigger when it's on then when it's off. When it's off, it looks like just a small black screen, but when on, it's the size of the world! For about a year, I was addicted to my 86's screen, not as much anymore.

Sorry 'bout making you feel like a loser.

The dimentions of the screen are 2.5 inches by 1.5 inches. Thats 3.75 square inches. Plus, it is not the size of the screen that matters. It is the number of pixels.

Uhh ... hey there, they weren't asking for technical specs or debating the usefulness of different-sized screens, they were just talking about how calc games took up a bunch of time. Dahh, you people. :)

and if you really do feel like a loser, then go look at a bigger screen, like the computer or the tv, dont just sit there squinting at your ti85

not to worry babe. Steve the comforter (nad great big suck-up) is here to say:
Get a TI-89 with a view screen model, and a projector. Then you can have any size screen you want. That is, if you can get the TI-89 with that. otherwise get a TI-83, and control it with your 89 in that remote thing...
but a view-screen model can help all the small screen syndrome in the world...

(ok, now for my first serious post)

Actually, as soon as I heard of the 89 i just wanted it. Of course it was expensive, so waited quite a while until i got it, but it's definitly worth it. It's not hard to work with, you just have to get used to it. And I found it extremely useful on my first try with Calculus, just to make sure those derivations (is that ok?) and integrals (don't know either, the curly s thing) were right, definitly invaluable. But be careful with it, be sure you learn to make it by yourself too, or you'll be in trouble. But I rant... Literal expresion are a breeze with it, and and I seriosly advise anyone without one who needs to know serious math and who isn't a genious to really consider getting it (or the 92).

I saw someone with an 89, but they were so dumb they didn't have the first clue as to how to use it, I told them to read the manual and they looked at me like I had two heads. Anyway, when I got mine I spent 6 hours reading the manual the first day, and that little thing has saved my life, it is probably the most versatile, most powerful calculator made. Plus its worth the money. I heard of the 92 but I never really had a desire to buy one. But I'd put my money in the 89 any day.

Finally someone has enough intelligence to actually read the calculator manual instead of just throwing it away or using it to hold up a table leg. The TI-89 is the most powerful and versatile handheld graphing calculator on the planet. I bought one in November of last year (one of the last Hardware 1.00 calcs) and have enjoyed it ever since. The first thing I did when I got it out of the package was read the manual and I learned how to harness the great power of the TI-89.

The moral here is that if you would like to be able to take full advantage of your calculator, read the manual!

Yeah, after I won my 89 at a math competition I just read the whole manual on the plane-ride back (from DC to Colorado). The calculator was definately worth the price.

The only thing we got from ours was bragging rights when our school took first, second, and third and also pretty much every award you could thing of.

This was for the top four individuals in the state and going to Nationals... we also got a free trip to Washington DC (I live in Northern Virginia, so I drove 30 minutes to there, what a wonderful trip! :)), as well as a cap, two shirts, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Casio9850 manual is as big as the Ti89 one, and I have to say that Casio's is more readable and has a lot of big basic programs that allows you to learn in basic. Anyway the TI89 is great, no doubt.

WHY CAN'T WE GET OUR ASSES IN GEAR AND WORK IN SCHOOL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. WE EXPECT THE WORLD TO BE HANDED TO US IN EASILY SWALLOWABLE CHUNKS. I BET HALF OF YOU TEENS CAN'T EVEN COOK FOOD THAT ISN'T MICROWAVABLE, FROZEN, OR CAN BE MADE IN A TOASTER. I BET YOU CAN'T WASH CLOTHES OR IRON EITHER! I ADMIT, CALCULATORS ARE FUN, BUT ONLY IN YOUR SPARE TIME. PUT THE DAMN THING DOWN IN CLASS AND TAKE NOTES, EVEN IF YOU HAVE AN A. SHOW THE TEACHER SOME RESPECT!

Yes, I did earn it. I got a 60 on a test about poetry. I wasn't meaning to say my English teacher was evil because I got a B. I was meaning to say she was evil, because she is! Everybody thinks she is! With Good reason! And BTW I CAN Iron and wash clothes, and I can cook food without a microwave or with a toaster.

really? so I'm not alone...
I'm thinking that I should be a "stay-at-home" dad, then I can do all the fun stuff, plus be able to just take a break, go into the office (or den, whatever), and start programming in any of the languages I know that I feel like programming in at the moment...then my wife can go out with her combat boots every day and work somewhere where they come in handy. oh and when she comes home to a nice meal, clean house...man (whoo hoo!) talk about some serious BASIC programming toNIGHT!

My teacher doesn't care if I'm playing games and programming in class. I mean, if you are sitting at a 100%, doesn't that kind of mean that you know what's going on? Why pay attention to something you already get perfectly?

Yeah, there is a thing called LIFE. Work is boring. And I'm saying this and I don't have half the fun I should have, so don't even bother trying to convert me on that. School is boring, teachers are boring, and most things you can basicly learn by yourself, at least until you get to the university.

A lot of people in my classes play games instead of listening to the teacher. I used to do that until I realized that I was totally wasting my time and not getting important information from the teacher. I love playing the games for it though, but I've seen many kids just fail because of them.
