Looks like we have to regenerate that page more often. We'll set that up ASAP. Thanks,

I'm about to change my TI-83 for a 86 or 89. But I don't know which one to get. The 89 sure is better but the price is higher. Anyone with both the 86 and 89 could tell me which one they prefer for games (not during classes hehehe) and college.

Thanx for the help
Kaven

I own a TI-82, TI-83, TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, and a TI-92+
I rarely use anything but my 89. The games are so much better than the TI-86 ones, compare Mario 86 ans SMQ and you'll see my point. Also the TI-89 has a FLASH ROM, over 500K of RAM (over 600K in the Fall), and the SDK from TI will be out soon, so "Killer Apps" will be out soon. I suggest you go with the TI-89!

When is the 89 going to have 600 k? I just bought another 89 and if they're going to have 600k i'm going to take mine back and wait a few months to buy a new one. Will there be any difference in price?

E-Mail me please or post here (that was a dumb comment, you probably all already knew that) Oh well. I'd better stop rambling on now.

TI are putting out AMS version 2.0 for 92+ and 89 in autumn. This will, apparently, make better use of the memory already in the calcs, freeing up extra memory for use. See www.ti.com/calc

Definently 89

Yes, I agree with ccsw. The 89 is much better than the 86. Once you use "pretty print", you will never go back...

Well, I think I'll buy the 89. Can I use it with the parallel link ?

The lowest price I found in canada is 200$ If you know where I can get it for a lower price, let me know !

Thanx

I own a TI-86 and a TI-89 (I had a Ti-85, but gave it to my brother when I got the Ti-86). I definately recommend the Ti-86 whole-heartedly, and yes, you can use it with the link.

What do you prefer on the 86 that the 89 don't have ?

86...89

I do most of my programming on my 86, and use my 89 for math and games. For some reason, I "connect" better with the language of the 86....maybe it is just me. But hey, if your going to buy a new calc, and learn a new language, might as well go for the 89. Besides, the 89 community needs more programmers...

There is nothing I personally prefer.... the 89 is absolutely amazing in comparison, however, at my high school they refuse to let us use 89s due to the fact that it does everything we are supposed to know how to do *without* a calculator.

Get a TI-89 Online from ticalc.org, Dimension-TI, or The ACZ. Either site will offer a price lower than $200. $200 is too much, I wouldn't pay it!

For the last time: *TICALC.ORG DOES NOT SELL CALCULATORS*. We never will. It incurs a certain legal responsibility and also we don't have the time to do it, and we don't really want the money either.

As for 200$, remember that he is most probably referring to *CANDADIAN* dollars... There is a not so slight difference. There is a world outside of the United States. Remeber that.

One of the great "are you an american" tests, along with what America exactly is (an American will answer the US).

Since I really like the programming I think it matters which calculator you have. I have a 82, but I'm getting a 92. I'll be able to play all games with my 92, and make programs that work with all TIs with my 82.

TI-82 programs aren't compatible with TI-85/86 or 89/92/92+ but they are compatible with TI-83 (assembly progs aren't compatible). TI-92 can only run 89 and 92 programs.

Maybe you knew this.. but it wasn't clear in your post.

A TI-92? At least consider a TI-92+. It has a lot more memory and doesn't cost that much more (I think). It's almost fully compatible with a TI-89 too.
