PedroM 68k OS Released
Posted by Michael on 10 December 2003, 23:21 GMT

Patrick Pelissier, author of PreOS and other fine 68k programs, has written the first third-party operating system for the 68k calcs. The open-source PedroM looks like a Unix shell, has task switching and a much smaller size (only 192 KB). It is designed to be compatible with the AMS 1.xx series.

In order to include this OS in our archives, we have added categories for TI-89 Operating Systems, TI-92 Plus Operating Systems, and Voyage 200 Operating Systems.

Morgan has also been fixing up the TI-83 Plus Flash directory into subcategories of games, science, math, et cetera. New submissions should no longer go into the general Flash category but rather one of these new subcategories.

Update (Michael): We are currently being Slashdotted, but holding up just fine because HTTP requests are load-balanced among our Beowulf cluster of 2000 TI-85s. Bring it on!

One question, can VTI handel it? My link port is buggy, and I don't want to take no chances.

Yes, you can run it with VTI :)

well, if you have, then could you send me a built copy to Theycallmeyams@aol.com (maybe my link). The build process is too heavy for me to deal with.

The TIB Receiver doesn't work on VTI. But, as Konrad Meyer says, VTI will open the TIB directly just fine.

It wouldn't be fare if we added it to the vote for this year since it has already started, but we won't forget about it next year.

Would it EVER be fare? Last time I heard a fare was a fee of money or something...I'm not sure he could make money off this program when it's available free off of TICalc...(For those of you who don't think I'm joking, I assure you that I am...)

I know that, but I was talking about the CD that contained all the ticalc.org archives that was on eBay. He said it was legal, but it doesn't sound like it is, to me.

That CD was illegal on many levels. Primarily because many of us claimed LEGAL copyright for our code, which he was selling for a personal profit.

Obviously you don't know me too well, I make typing mistakes all the time. Mostly becasue I have developed my own system of the years that I can't seem to break...and yes I know it's supposed to be "fair?" i am after all..not an english major.

Hey Michael Vincent: what gives, man? First, you delete an entire thread on how to become a Sony beta tester, without so much as a "something was here" afterwards. Then, when I complained about that, you deleted my complaint in the same manner. Now, you deleted my spelling criticisms. I get the feeling that you don't find anything I have to say to be worthwhile. That attitude really offends me, and I've sent an e-mail to Magnus saying so.

Not only that, but you have deleted EVERY comment I've made where I corrected someone's spelling or grammar. That's ridiculous.

Hey, I've got an idea! Rather than go through and censor me completely, why don't you respond to my questions? That way, you look like less of an ass!

Its not rediculous. Spelling corrections are irrelevant to the progression of a discussion, hense they are deleted. And if that is all you post, then more power to MV!

'hence'.
Perhaps you should read the rest of what I said. I helped people find out how to become beta testers for Sony. This thread was deleted.

Don't be a hypocrite. That comment in itself was irrelevant to the progression of the discussion.

Since it is not a simple program but an OS, you have to send it to your TI with a compatible OS-sender. To run it with vti just put the file in VTI's folder.

okiedoke... now i get it
the file is the .tib file in the main directory (with either 89 or 92 in the title). place this in vti's main directory, and click ROM version. it will pick the .tib up as a 89 or 92+ ROM image and it works. w00t!

Re: Correction

You actually need both an OS sender and an OS receiver (because it is not signed by TI):
* OS sender: the one coming with AMS 1.05 (you can ask TI for it) is fine. Extract ti89base.exe or ti92base.exe (they are self-extracting ZIPs) and use the EXE that comes out of them.
* OS receiver: TIB Receiver.

WARNING: This WILL overwrite AMS. You'll have to reflash your calculator once more if you want to get AMS (with CAS and all) back.

Reflash? What does that mean? I thought you could just send the IT OS to your calc as you would normally. This is starting to look more and more risky.
