Yep... I'm one of the new archivers. Yay for me! As soon as Niklas tells us everything we need to know, we'll start working on the queue right away. Our goal is to make a big dent by Pi Day.

Maybe you should consider shutting down the file upload form until you get the pending queue under control, so the files don't keep piling up.

Reviewing is a different job, but you could apply for that when they start hiring them. :)

What's the difference between a reviewer and an archiver?

A BIG one. A reviewer looks at files and gives them a ranking, sort of. It rates them from 1-10 on different aspects of the program and then they write a summary of the program. This gives people information about the program; "should I download this or not?"

An archiver is somebody who uploads the files into the archives (ticalc.org/pub).

On another note: maybe it's just me, but it seems that ticalc.org has been loading instantaneously (holy cow, that's a big word) on my 56K modem lately. Before it was really slow. Did you guys do something to boost the speed, or am I just the only one on the site right now?

Just FYI, servers are most often I/O (input/output) bound, meaning their performance is limited by their storage and transmission speed and is not limited very much by the processor speed. That's why they have just 200MHz processors but work just fine as servers.

I hope that's what you wanted to know about servers. If it isn't, then don't read this post.

Congratulations! Unfortuantely, ticalc.org has lost some of it's prestige of having the largest archives on the net. Hopefully, you can get that back. In the meantime, don't let the necessity of expressing the number of files in the pending queue in scientific notation drive you insane.

Actually, the fun part is when you try to add a file and the profanity filter finds something it doesn't like. Sudddenly this list of obscenities pops up, and it's kinda amusing. (Archiving at school = bad!)
