Arena 3D released
Posted by Niklas on 7 October 2002, 15:00 GMT
More 3D goodness: Malcolm Smith just released Arena 3D, a First Person Shooter built using Thomas Nussbaumers FAT Engine for the TI-89, TI-92 Plus and Voyage 200 calculators. The game has a Rocket Arena theme, you can strafe, and special features include a double-speed mode and a "hit find" maneuver (automatically turn to whoever/whetever shot you). More features, options and levels are planned; take a look at Malcolms web page for more information. One small point: being a pre-release, there are still bugs. Malcolm notes one in particular in the readme.txt file, so make sure to backup any important files before you try this out. Update (Niklas): Malcolm has released an Arena 3D SDK (sort of) with everything you need to create your own levels.

Hey Adrien Follin, a word of advice: Don't curse repeatedly in your readme files. It tends to make us not want your programs.

What ever happened to Thomas Williamson, he made a bunch of great 86 games in a short span, such as dragon warrior and dragon quest and king of the fighters. I have enjoyed all of his games, and wished he would release some more b/c I am sure they would be of good quality and very fun too!

Here's a new post: TI launches the "useless" app, it makes you go mad, with nothing to do with your calc...
Useless app folows the line of TI previous apps and OS, completly useless...
TI says it is a must have because, it makes your calc slower, and has bugs, also when you don't wanna do nothing, well you really can't do anything, then you can blame your calc...
it was realeased for all flash TI calculators, enjoy...

I just realized that the word 'shit' no longer breaks forum rules... it is now allowed for any US network TV show, as long as it is in prime time... in fact, I've seen a couple shows already that used it - South Park included, of course, they used it something like 126 times in one episode.

Technically a word can only be considered 'bad' if you allow it to have power over you. Words themselves are, by nature, simply either a combination of sounds or a grouping of symbols. They cannot have any intrinsic moral or ethical value. The words which have been deemed 'obscene' in American society are only seen as such because our society has issues with people who publicly discuss what those words represent: usually bodily functions, body parts, or sex. Yes, there are other 'curse' words which do not fit these categories, but these also have completely different meanings than what people seem to think they mean. For example, the word 'bitch' was originally simply another name for a mature female dog. Even some of the words that *do* fit these categories didn't originally mean what they do today. The dreaded 'F' word was originally an acronym for what prostitutes were licensed to commit in medieval days: 'F'ornication 'u'nder a 'C'onsenting 'K'ing. In most Western societies, these words have been flung around so often that they have begun to *lose* their shock value, which may or may not be a good thing. One the one hand, they are beginning to be seen as less obscene, but on the other hand, people are using them more and more as 'filler' words, replacing a more worthy adverb or adjective with something that has almost no meaning anymore.
So, you see, a word can only be obscene if you allow it to be. The words themselves are not bad; however, as long as people believe that they mean 'bad' things, they will continue to be taboo.
