Virtual TI breaks quarter mil
Posted by Magnus on 15 September 2002, 10:25 GMT
Virtual TI, our top downloaded program of all time, has broken through a quarter of a million downloads! At the statistics count last night, it ended up at 250,009 downloads. A big congratulations to the author Rusty Wagner - keep up the good work! Footnote: The second placed program, W32Tran8x, has yet to reach 100,000. For full statistics, check our download statistics.

That's a whole lot of downloads! I think Virtual TI is one of the most useful tools I've used for programming, especially on multiple calculators. I give a big thanks to Rusty Wagner for this amazing program.

Ya, I did, since my "company" isn't Polar Development anymore, its Polar Computer. This is like my third SN, because I forgot my first password for my 2-3 year old one, ncrank, so i signed up recently as polardpres, since i started posting here again, now I changed it to make more sense.
OMG. I was looking at old post, and Bearman, is like atleast a year and a half old, so i guess we all own him a noob apology, but i refuse to apologize for the zip stuff, just the noobs stuff. So, ahh, sorry Bearman.

Nooo! I will NOT click on that link!
Especially becase I am going to buy a HP-49G because I am sick and tired of TI trying to stop users from programming large programs, grayscale, and the like - especially when they justify it by saying that they are 'improving' the OS and 'fixing bugs'!!!
I'm mad, fightin' mad!
Also, the HP-49G has a serial port AND a link port, RPN built in, startup libraries, speed (despite having a processor that is 1/3 as fast as the 68k usedin the 89), and a company that SUPPORTS third-party and user development. (also, the 49G has builtin grayscale, supported by the OS, as well as the compiler and assembler that are built in)
Sorry about the run-ons, but you just have to visit the link above.

You call the # key the 'Pound'?
The symbols over the number keys read:
1-!, 2-" ,3-£ ,4-$ ,5-%, 6-^, 7-&, 8-*, 9-(, 0-).
If I hit 4 ($) with the AltGr button, I get €.

We don't have an AltGr key... but wait, I think Sun keyboards might...
For me, I have 1=!, 2=@, 3=#, 4=$, 5=%, 6=^, 7=&, 8=*, 9=(, and 0=). We can't get a Euro symbol without typing in an ASCII code. And yes, we silly Yanks do call '#' a pound symbol. Hence the joke, "I will # you into submission. w00t!"

Okay, wierd post, but whatever
I don't care if you like windows, thats fine, its an opinion, and its positive atleast, I hate the people who bash macs, and haven't every really used one, they used it in school twice and decided it sucked, thats who I dislike, but also, Macs are better, is an opinion, not neccessarily a fact.

All you have to do is use the multifinder menu, the one in the upper right hand corner, if you use OS9 or before, and in OS X you can use the dock, I think it's just as easy, the taskbar gets filled up pretty quickly. You can also apple(cammand, the one with the apple and the propeller thingy) tab to switch through apps. I like Mac OS X alot more, because it is much better thought out than Windows, and Mac OS classic.
A quick way to change printers in the mac OS classic (pre OSX Releases) is:
All the printers show up on your desktop, or atleast the ones you've installed, so just control click, or right click if you have a two button mouse, on the printer icon, then choose set as default printer, or you can go to special up at the top and choose the same command.

So, what your really saying is, your still stuck in the past, and we have modernized, I have nothing against brits, as long as they don't mess with America, color makes more sense than colour, the way we pronounce it, it should be spelled color. And yes, I do hate the damn Imperial mesurements, but I'm so used to them that going 100Km an hour is just wrong sounding, and you don't know what side of the damn road to drive on, we invented cars, there fore our standards are right, germans drive on the right, why don't you?
As I said, I have nothing against Britian, they are one of our greatest allies, the only one with enough guts to take on Saddam with us. I don't like people who trash the Mac or USA, especially the USA. Thats all, nothing personal.

If you think mac is ugly, you obviously have bad taste, Windows is most hideous Piece of Crap out there, and it sucks, most people only use it, because the morons at best buy don't know how to sell anything but Windows Machines. Linux, is far superior to Windows, it is not rubish, it happens to be Microsucks biggest fear right now. They are losing more ground to it than ever before. so before you make assinine comments, think.
And give the finger to Gates for me.

So, what your saying is, Windows copied not only the Mac, but later on, it also copied Risc, wow, gates is so unoriginal.
In my opinion, Risc OS isn't all that old for a graphical OS, granted linux came out in 94, I think it was then, if not then, then around that time. Mac OS came out in 84, and Windows came out shortly there after. But way before them, back in like 76, Xerox came out with the first truly graphical OS, I forgot what it was called, but no one used it, so they gave up, then Apple started the Mac project in 82, and Microsoft started the windows project shortly there after.
So, even though 92 may seem old, its not really an old GUI OS, but cool to find out what Risc OS is anyways, I hadn't ever heard of it before.

Acorn Computers didn't really make a big hit in America (even though they did print American manuals, with altered spellings). It is a shame as the old Archimedes had quite a few features of the modern PC- sound card, CD-ROM, built-in midi, graphical OS, three-button mouse etc. They were ugly by the standards of today- plain white boxes (even the mouse was a white box with three rectangular buttons!). Acorn also made BBC Micro computers, and then switched to making Psion handhelds (yes, they are made by a branch of Acorn) and have recently switched to making the Symbian OS found on some ultra-modern mobile telephones. We had three Archimedes at my old school- two with green screens, one with a full colour screen. We also had 20+ Beebs. The sad thing is that I think they burned the lot! We used one of the Archimedes as a file server on a network, to which all the Beebs were connected. On a semi-calculator related note- the BBC Micro had an expansion bus, known as the 'tube', to which could be plugged in a z80 microprocessor to increase the processing power.

I think that the iMac is horribly ugly, and the hockey-puck mouse is terrible. We don't really want computers to look nice! They are just a device for using for work or entertainment! My PC is just the usual flat off-white box with a monitor on top and a comfy keyboard with a nice three-buttoned mouse. The keyboard and box are HP, the mouse is Genius and the monitor is a Viglen. It is, without a doubt, ugly. But it works, and the OS (Win2k) looks quite nice- it is clear, uncluttered, and the 'boring' and non-swish look of the GUI means that it runs cleanly on my ancient P166. (Though I like the shadow on the mouse). I believe that we should judge an OS on what we use it for- Linux, in my opinion, is generally quite useless- there is little software support, and Gnome is cluttered and overly intensive on the hardware. However, if I was to run a web server, I might use Linux due to its reliability. It is what I want the computer to do that alters my choice of OS. That is why I use Win2k on my machine- it offers a solid, clear platform for maximum compatibility. I run games in MS-DOS, for the speed. I would never think of using a Mac, as I can do all that I need on a PC. I support RiscOS due to the cheapness of the machines required to run it (64bit processing too, Intel StrongARM) and the control you can take over the resources for applications. So, you might like Macs 'because they look nice', but I'll stick with Windows because it's fine for me.

I enjoy my "ugly" Mac OS (I think its the nicest loking one out there, but..), you can use your Win 2K setup, atleast its not XP, as that OS sucks, 2K is probably the best Windows to date, but we no longer have hockey puck mice, thank god, as I hated that little round son of a bitch, it was so unconfortable, but my one button mouse is really quite comfortable, even though I bought a two button optical mouse, because it is easier. Linux is rather useless to most people, as it only does what windows does, not even everything that windows does, has a horribly cluttered GUI, and has limited support, but thats what you get from an opensource GUI. It is however, a more powerful, better thought out OS over all, its terminal is far more powerful than DOS. I like the Mac OS because of its flexibility, speed, style, stability, and hardware. It also works all the time, the only program that ever crashes on me is IE, but that is microsofts fault, so use your PC, it sure is cheaper, but don't bash something you don't use, and obviously haven't used in a few years, we got rid of the damn hockey puck 2 years ago. alright, thats it. Oh yeah, Macs can do anything a windows can do, just with fewer problems, and games, fewer games, but I have a PS2 for that.

All school computers suck, Mac or Windows, they buy outdated crap. The iMacs at my school have hockey pucks too, but its cause their old. The windows machines at school always crash, and never work. Thats not where I formed my opinion of windows sucking, I happen to own a compaq. All school computers suck, and if I had based my opinion of windows and dell on what the school has, I would think they are completely worthless, but I actually used windows, so my opinion was formed outside of school. Dell is a great computer company, they make nice machines, just if they ran Linux, they'd be awesome. Most of yalls opinions about Macs were formed at school, all school computers suck!

Nope, doesn't ring any bells...
I am, however, writing a port of a Psion game, called Stigma. Basically, it is a game in which you, a low-friction ball bearing, have to move around a course collecting smaller ball bearings. When you have done so, an exit appears and you go to the next level. What makes it hard is not falling off the track, into holes etc due to the impossibly smooth action of the ball- it accelerates quickly and doesn't really slow down!
