New folders in the archives
Posted by Niklas on 3 August 2002, 17:08 GMT
With the release of the Voyage 200 (or rather some comments on your uploaded files) it is high time for some new folders in our archives. The big one is of course the entire V200 tree - basically a copy of the TI-92 Plus tree - but there are also some smaller ones that have been requested: Other folders will appear in the near future, such as Media for all calculator models. Comments and suggestions are very welcome. Update (Niklas): Before you upload V200 files that are simply copies of existing TI-89 or TI-92 Plus ones, please consider requesting a simple link from the existing files by emailing the filearchiver. It will be processed just as fast (faster if pending is full), it will save space on the ticalc.org server, and you will only have to update one file in our archives in the future.

NOTICE
Voyage 200 programs currently do not appear on the front page. The problem should be fixed asap though, so don't re-upload your files.

I suppose he was talking about the transitions seen in arrows when they light up and go out. These are just plain animated gifs. (no DHTML was used...) Other stuff including the "loading..." message is js. News are dynamically generated by a cgi script. As goes with loading, its only the main page (I'm not going to explain why) and the rest of the site loads very fast and you don't see its blink annoyingly as with sites that reload everything over again when you click a link. Anyways, the load time of main page is cause by the layout. The navigation menus doesn't allow us to take off frames. I believe that having the navigation scrolling up with the site a bad practice. Neverthelss, it only takes about 6 to 8 for me to load it after I clear the internet temp folder, and I'm on a 56k!
As with Tankers, single player mode is coming, we understand that its needed and will try to get it done after we release SAS beta (finally). Also, in new SAS the scrolling has changed and background doesn't blur with enemies as it was seen in previous versions. The new SAS should be finished pretty soon. Usually, you'll see most recent updates on our site.
So, I think I answered all the questions. Ask away if you still have any. Also, this is nick is my temp one coz my main account got jacked up and still didn't get fixed up. (oh, sorry for long comment, I'm just notorious for writing long comments if you've been on my site's forum...8D )

The way I'm referring to "DHTML" is using any HTML tags that can be used dynamically, like being placed anywhere on the page, having a certain transparency, and stuff like that, because normal stuff can't do that. Now, do make all the effects and stuff that go with it, you use javascript. Like if I wanted to move layer A to coordinates 50,50, I would have A defined something like
<DIV ID="A" STYLE="position:absolute; left:0;top:0">Hello, this is layer A.</DIV>
and for the script,
<SCRIPT><!--Hide
document.all.a.style.pixelLeft=50;
document.all.a.style.pixelTop=50;
//--></SCRIPT>
There are plenty of easier ways to do that, but that's what I meant when I said DHTML.
