TI-84 Plus OS v2.40 Released
Posted by Michael on 28 January 2006, 21:58 GMT
TI has released v2.40 of its operating system for the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. They have again neglected to provide any description of new features or bug fixes in this version. However, it has been discovered that pressing Left+Right+On while the 84+ is off enters into a restricted mode designed for teachers to restrict calculators during tests.

I think that I may have found another minor change in this version. By accident, I used more than one negative sign infront of a number. Instead of giving an error, the two negative signs negated each other. I tried this again with more signs, and it works.

Looks like it boots faster, when using 2.30 it took my calc almost more than 1 second to boot up, before 2.30 this didn't happen, and now under 2.40 it boots fast again.

It's curious how many people are saying they don't want to install this on their calculators so as to "protect" their calculator from evil teachers. Realize this is actually a _good_ thing for those who want to keep your programs and such.
If you have a teacher who is adamant about preventing cheating (which IMHO is quite reasonable), without this new feature the only thing he/she can do is fully clear your memory. Generally, people hate it when this happens. Now, the teacher can lock your memory, making sure you don't cheat, but once you're done with the test, you can unlock it and everything is back where it should be. Your new game that you've spent months working on is all safe.
See, this is actually a feature where everybody wins. The teachers can lock down calculators, while still making sure that the students are happy as they don't have to endure full memory clears.

I am glad that I saw this. If I didn't I probably would have missed this, and might have seen later a OS v. 2.5 or something.

Um, I think I fount something else that changed.
I always relied on the LCD Fix program to play ZTetris. After I installed 2.40, The graphics have no problems without the LCD Fix.
