When i upgraded, some flash apps on the ti84 silver didnt work anymore.... so i downgraded to version 1.2 (or what ever it is)

Once a file is sent to the locked calculator by a calculator-to-calculator link (no computer links, apparently silent link doesn't do this), the locked calculator is unlocked.

If you don't have another calculator to send stuff from, you can use the virtual link feature of TilEm (or VTI if you are into obsolete software). That way, your computer will pose as an actual calculator.

Only if you have an old-school link cable, which most people with an 84+ do not have.

Good point. The direct USB-USB connection cannot currently be used for virtual linking, and we don't even know for sure how feasible it is to map the calculator's USB chipset to the PC USB port in order to emulate USB-USB linking. So you need a SilverLink (USB GraphLink) or an old-school GraphLink. (And if you want to use VTI, even the SilverLink is not supported.)

As I noted on DS, silent link works for me. I can't imagine that TI would deliberately set this up to only work from another calculator.

Maybe it's just silent USB link that doesn't work? That I can't test. If so I'd say that's another bug to add to the list for 2.41.

Actually I sould correct myself; silent link works, you just have to send stuff (things like getting screenshots and such doesn't work.)

I don't mean to boast, but I was the first person to send the notice that OS 2.40 was released for the 84 to the TICalc.org News E-Mail Address. However, if you are using CODEX, do not turn off your calculator using 12:Asm(prgmCODEX), as when you turn it back on, you will have to remove the battery, but back in the battery, and turn it on to the GBSOD (Greenish Brown Screen of Death).

I noticed a while ago. I saw when I downloaded Notfolio for a friend earlier, and thought, what is this 2.40 OS? I look at their latest updates page, and it has been 2.30 for a long time after I saw 2.40

I wonder if you could build a device to plug into the link port that would transmit a file to the calc as if it was another calc. then all you would have to do was plug in the device and recive the file.

Or use a silverlink with a large to small usb converter and send a file to yourself. Too bad that's probably impossible.

Easily. That's the kind of thing I would build in a couple hours with a PIC. Since sending from the calc supposedly works too, it would just have to accept the right headers and send back ACK packets. Maybe I'll design one and upload the code/schematic...

Nah, PICs use so little power (a couple mA), that you could just charge a capacitor from the linkport. I think there are plans for a link port thermometer in the archives here where someone did the same thing. The final device (if you just wrap the PCB in duct tape or something) would probably be ~1 cubic inch, so size wouldn't be a problem - just stuff it in your pocket.
