Calculator Chili?
Posted by Michael on 31 January 2004, 00:58 GMT

Hormel Foods Corporation has recalled its canned chili product because of external contamination. What was 104,000 pounds of chili contaminated with - Mad Cow Disease? No. Calculators. Sixteen states now have extra-special, super-mathematical cans of chili on their grocery shelves.

In unrelated events, a former ticalc.org staff member has reported that Nick lost his graphing calculator last week. After an unsuccessful attempt at late-night cow tipping, Nick was performing bovine mass computations. Upon leaving the pasture, he was subsequently unsure as to where had left his beloved 86.

Be careful of the sharp plastic shards - the transistors and ICs are small enough to munch, but the case fragments can really hurt your gums.

It's the fragments of shattered glass LCDs that's giving me problems... and I hope Nick finds his 86 soon!

What kind of American has gums? hehehe the european stereotype is that americans are so uncouth and like "rowdy cowboys" that we never brush our teeth (and is somewhat true) but the American stereotype is that the British all have wooden teeth. How many people actually floss thrice a day and save "soda and other junk foods" for special occasions?

Uhh.... that code is um.... *just forgets about it*

How in the WORLD did calculator parts get in chili!?!?! The weird thing is, it's true-- CNN has it on its website (and I doubt CNN does fake news articles).

Hope you find your calc, NickD. Somehow, I doubt that's how you lost it, but either way, hope you find it. Most of us know what it's like to lose a calculator (or... some).

I don't drink soda any more, specifically for that reason. Though, I do feel better, now that I drink water all day instead of soda.

Did somebody on the production line drop his calculator into the chili? How do you contaminate chili with a calculator? It seems rather hard to do. But, no, it wouldn't be a very good invention. The sauce would fry the calculator's circuits, unless they've invented liquid-state semiconductors or something...

You can never put calculators in ANYTHING and make it contaminated...the CHILI contaminated the CALCULATORS...calculators are like light...no matter how much darkness there is, a little light drives it all away... :)

heres my guess, somebody was playing a game on their Ti-83+ when it suddenley freezes and they get a ram clear, they get angry and accidently chucked the calculator in with the chili.

Yeah, I can see that happening. I've felt like (but never actually) throwing my calculator under those exact same circumstances. I like my 83+ Silver too much.

Which is a great reason to have all your games in archive, and run them through mirageos (or crunchy, but I haven't tried that yet). ...Ram clear? no problem. Just gotta wait for mos to sort the files again (which sometimes takes 1-2 minutes, but is better than going back and reloading them from your computer).

It's all about using OmniCalc and its MemRestore function, or whatever it's called. That works perfectly. OmniCalc is very useful...

I agree, Omnicalc is a great APP, ut it or something else jacked up my link port on my TI-83SE, so I had to send it in to get a reconditioned unit. Otherwise, I'd recommend it to anyone who wanted their calculator to perform to the fullest. Saving a RAM image every time you turn it off, that's freakin' cool.

Hey, bud, no one ever said it was a TI-83...it might have been some dude with a calculator taking inventory and he was on a catwalk over a vat o'chili, and he may have dropped it. You never know. My tongue has gotten better though...
