Excuse my ignorance, but does the iPaq use the Palm OS or Windows or what? In any event, a calc (_any_ calc is better than the one that comes with Palms) emulator for the Palm OS would be nice.

Re: Re: Nope...

The iPaq runs under the Windows CE OS. It has currently gone through an upgrade and is now known as Pocket PC 2002. Included with it are pocket versions of MS Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. There has also been a Palm emulator (alpha stage) released just recently which allows the Windows based PDAs to run twice the number of programs.

Ahhh, but for an 86 emulator. How sweet that would taste...errr...sorry. I'll stop now.

you've got to be kidding me. Ipaqs suck. They have the same features of a palm, but more complicated. who the hell needs 65k of colors, with windows loaded on it? Its stupid. and I would not pay $700 somewhere for it

Damn straight! I only have to recharge my Clie every three weeks. Nothing saves more energy than an under-clocked 68k cpu and 8 shade grayscale, or is that 16?.

You don't even know what display you have??? I love being able to do my organizing things and TONS more on my Windows based handheld. I have about a 14 hour battery life (which is more than plenty for a weeks worth of my level of use without a recharge). And, like I posted below, have you ever used one? Or do you flame that which you do not understand?

Listen, I'm only looking to expand the TI-calc to another level. I am a gadget freak!!! And I would love (almost) nothing more than to whip out my iPaq connect it to my TI and load it with...whatever..and then use whichever, for whatever, whenever...

"Or do you flame that which you do not understand?"

Yeah, that one. Please, give me a break. I've used a windows CE device and have seen a friend of mine using it often. I think people are a little too touchey when it comes to their stuff.

Yeah but...
ooosadface

Do you agree that it would be sweet to connect your calc to your handheld? That's my main point. I could store all kinds of calc programs on my 256 mb flash card and send them to my calc wherever I was.

This is probably going way off the original post, so I'll make it my last on this topic.

But still think it would be sweet.

Re: Re: Nope...
ooosadface

ummm...I paid $238.00. It is 16 level grayscale. It runs windows and I have a Palm emulator, currently in Beta, 16 mb upgradeable Fash ROM, 16 mb Flash RAM(internal), an expansion sleeve with a 128 mb Flash RAM card (expandable to at least 1 gb with a microdrive). The Palm is OK if all you're looking for is an organizer. I'm looking for more than that. I have an hours worth of mp3s on the card that play through my car stero (factory stero mind you) or my headphones in CD quality. I have four ebooks a Bible reader and three translations of the Bible.

All that said, have you ever used an iPaq? And I don't mean standing in Circuit City. Why would you just lash out at my Christmas present? All I am requesting is that the TI calc emulator start being expanded to the handheld devices. There are already good ones written for Windows. I know it is not the same Windows as on my hanheld, but there must be some similarities to allow it to be ported with some ease. That said, how about a cable and linking program to link my TI calc to my iPaq. Then I could take programs with me and put on what I want, when I want, where I want.

I respect your opinion, but please see where I am really headed with this. The opportunity is here. For ALL handhelds. Let's seize it...

My TI-89 is so cool!

I go a brand-spankin'-new TI-89 for Christmas! I've played around with a friend's before so I know what it's capable of, but I'm still discovering new and cool things about it.

Now I don't have to bother my friend to test out the programs I write. Pretty soon my USB Graph-Link will arrive, and I'll be totally self-sufficient!

if that's the case, you can never make the 89 work right, I was only able to make mine run all programs properly by adding AMS 2.03 with Maxmem patch. Everything else doesn't work quite right, some programs (Dr. Mario is one) crash on anything else.

The USB G-link used to (officially) be Mac only, but with the release of TI-Connect, the USB is also supported on Windows (98+, might be able to get it to work on 95, but you're gonna need to find some sort of USB drivers.).

From firsthand experience, don't even bother trying to use USB or AGP on Windows 95. Get Windows 98, even if you have to spend all of your money to do so. (better yet get Windows XP). Many USB devices won't even work on Windows 95 even if you have installed the USB Supplemental Patch (which requires Win95 4.00.950B or higher in the first place).

Or better yet, JUST GET A MAC!!!!!!!!! With that all said, I didn't get anything this year. Last year I got a USB Graph-link and a fun blue slide cover. I like the slide cover because everyone in my school has an 86 (it is what our school requires) and this makes mine unique. It helps prevent theft (I could pick it out in a crowd easily) and it looks cool. People always are amazed with it.

Wow...The 89's do look sweet. Unfortuanately I bought my 86 when the 89s were just coming out because the 86 is what my teacher was using to show examples.

Hindsight is 20/20, I guess...
