I'm currently in calculus, and I use my 83+ SE...My 89 in fact sits home unused, except when I charge people to rent it out for tests, which is a nice way to make some extra money :) I have to agree though, the 89 does help students on tests. There's one kid who bought a 89 for the final and he had the highest score at my school, 446/450 points. I came in second with 441 of course :). What bothers me is that in the end, you don't learn much when you can just type a bunch of derivatives and integrals into your calculator. I've become quite an advocate of doing the math yourself, I suppose. The 89 is perfectly fine to check your work, but I don't think copying its answer can ever be justified properly. In the end, I'll be able to do the integral when I'm stranded on the island without batteries, and the calc copiers will be stuck.
