I like to view the info and screens with HTTP, but the links should be FTP.

I prefer the HTTP because it contains the full titles, brief descriptions, etc.

http is nice for ease of use and is absolutely necessary for people behind certain types of proxies
HOWEVER...
many people, including myself, get 2x-3x the speed when transferring using ftp. So let's have both.

I think the key word in the survey is "when". I like navigating the http. By the way, I want someone who said "neither" to explain their weird answer!

Why doesn't TICalc.org just have a link to a FTP as well as a http link. Htat would make everyone happy. I personally prefer FTP.

I personally prefer HTTP because of the full titles and descriptions. And seriously, the downloads are so small that HTTP takes a few seconds eving with my crappy 2KB/s or so connection speed. FTP really only is better for me when I have a specific program in mind and know where it is located. Then the lists of programs is noticible faster.

Ok, for the 3 that said neither, what do YOU prefere? I don't know any other way of file transfer then physically calling up ticalc.org's server (provided they have a modem attached) and getting the files (which is *still* FTP).

I really can't wait until the archives are back up. I prefer the web page to the ftp about 99% to 1%! Try to get them up as soon as you can. I congragulate you that you are reviewing all the prgms to see if the are appropiate. Keep up the great work guys.

definately html... hey... could everyone here PLEASE do me a favor (yes, i mean EVERYONE)... go to my site, go to forums, register to post stuff, and start replying to some of my topics... i have just created this forum, and i just need a LITTLE contraversy to get them goin. (99% of my hits come from education.ti.com... where all the newbie calc nerds come from... so they're too shy to post stuff)... i've even got a topic for arguing over linux and windows... so that would be a good one (btw.. windows is better)

It's nice that the archives are slowly but steadily being reopened

HTTP is handy if you need additional info, instructions, or someone to hold your hand. If you have better than things to do than wait on ...S...L...O...W... HTTP downloads, and have a decent FTP client (best) or FTP-capable browser (yawn), FTP is a LOT faster. Having both available is best.

I prefer viewing the archives in the web format because I can read descriptions and see screenshots so to avoid downloading something and turn out later that I don't want it. However, FTP has it's own advantages. The network at school allows internet access, but it blocks certain web pages based on certain key words it may contain, like "Games". So Web access for the games archives isn't allowed. HOWEVER, it IS possible to get into the games archive through FTP. Kinda handy for circumventing the network security...hehehe
Oops, did I just say that out loud?

I have waded thru pages and pages of info on SCSI emulation for CD-R drives under Linux...i can't get it to work.
I've added the append="hdc=ide-scsi" to lilo.conf and added the alias scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi to the modules.conf file, rerun lilo, but no luck. cdrecord -scanbus says "Cannot open SCSI drive"
I'm running RedHat 7.1 Can anyone help with this?
