GO Z80 ASM!!!! I am still learning but it is MUCH MUCh better than anything the best BASIC programmer could do.
And I knew what it ment but I forget now.
Oh yeah, take away one vote for other and add it to ASM--i clicked wrong one!!!!!!!
and yes---what took em so long for another survey!??!!?
DOWN WITH BASIC--DONT MAKE ANOTHER BASIC GAME OR ANYTHING ALL YOU WHo THINK IT iS GOOD!
NOW, GO LEARN ASM AND MAKE YOUR PRGMS ALOT SMALLER AND BETTER AND FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE TIME TO LEARN ASM IS WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!1

I think that BASIC is a good programming language only when it comes to making math programs. It isn't really worth it to make an assembly math program. However, ALL games should be made in assembly, otherwise they will run to slow. (sometime soon I will learn assembly, I don't have time now).

BASIC is a good programming language! Although not as good as assembly, it can still be used to create very good programs. Many people don't have the time to learn ASM, so they turn to BASIC. Really good games can still be made in Basic, except they take real skill and lots of time. Many BASIC games can be made to run a lot faster, except they need to be optimized. So vote YES! to TI BASIC. I program for the TI-83 in BASIC.

Another good thing about BASIC is that you can easily write a basic program in school, like when you learn a new formula in math class, you can write a program in just a few minutes. Also, if you overclock your calculator, then BASIC programs/games will not be that slow.

Assembly for games (and other things that you can't do well or at all in BASIC)
BASIC for math programs (and others that wouldn't be worth it to make into assembly)

Overclocking your calculator improves BASIC by 10 fold. I love it when my Rational Root Zero program finishes way before my friend's does :)

Ummmmm
Overclocking can hurt your calc so thats a bad idea.
And well it can make it go up to 4 times, not 10.
and it can make asm games go just as much faster.
and YOU CAN make ASM programs in class.
For the 86 use ASMIDE86 and ZAC.
BASIC is a languange for BEGINNERS so you can learn to program so you will have a head start on learning ASM.
GO TI-ASM(Z80)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DID ALL WACTH THE X Files today!
I have seen that one on FX before!
The simpsons 10th haloween one was awsome!

Yeah, overclocking... As soon as the warranty runs out on any calc I've owned I try to overclock it. To date I have destroyed my 82,both my 83s, and 3 85's that didn't belong to me.

Someone needs to ease off the Ritalin, and accept BASIC for the easy, convenient, and powerful language it is and deserves to be recognized as.

I'm an ex-BASIC 68k programmer and am now an ASM programer. I'm still learning, but from what I have learned, 68k ASM rocks!!! I love it! I switched languages because I was always so annoyed with the fact that 68k BASIC programs always had that menu on top of the screen. You could never get rid of it, no matter what you tried. That and the fact that the programs were so slow. So far, I'm the only 68k programmer in school :)

ASM is much better than BASIC, but I don't think BASIC sucks. You can do lot's of neat stuff with BASIC. Just because a game isn't real graphic or runs kind of slow doesn't mean it isn't good. Like drugwars for example. Drugwars is in BASIC, and it's a cool game. It would be a little faster if it were in ASM, but oh well. ONe think that sucks about ASM is that you can't program it in school, like someone said before. I know a little bit of Z80 ASM, and 68K ASM, but I use Z80 or 68K BASIC mostly so I can program in school. Each language has it's own advantages, but ASM is a lot more powerful.

For a few calculators, 86, 89, 89+, and 92+, there are on-claculator compilers, although one error and all is lost, but you COULD program ASM in school.

Yes, the TI-89+ is the Hardware version 2.00, with a 12 mhz processor!
It is so much faster that some games would be hard on it.

Glad I haven't got my 89 yet, but too bad I can't downgrade if I get one of them.
That means I can't get some games on my calc ( _EVIL_ 1.05! )

However, I still can play the BASIC games and still grph faster than my friend if I get one.

Yeah Hardware Version 2.00 sucks for ASM. ASM runs about 1/2 as fast as on an original TI-89. Plus you can't see grayscale. HW 2.00 sucks right now, however when AMS 2.00 comes out it will have more Archive than the original TI-89.

TI probably made the TI-89+ run asm slower, just to piss people off. If this is true, then I am extatic that I get my 89 earlier. Where did you hear about the memory thing, though?

No ASM runs slower because of the differences in the ROM/RAM calls and other such things. I have both a HW 1.00 and HW 2.00 TI-89 and I like my 2.00 alot better, you should see it graph. I heard about the memory from TI themselves, if you want I'll forward you the email I recieved.

ZAC Blues

You bet! I lost all my vars at least 20 times because of Z A C.

Also, ASMIDE86 is buggy. I copied a 7kb sprite routine from ASM STUDIO 86 3.1 into the TIGrphLnk
then, I sent it. I opened it up in ASMIDE86 and compiled it. Then, it said, "ERROR!" I went back into ASMIDE86 and <asmcode> call _off \ call _reset ;bye bye, RAM</asmcode>

On-calc compilers?
Jeff Barrett  Account Info

I know of one for the 89, but I ran a search of ticalc and couldn't find an on-calc compiler for the 86. Can someone find out where to get one and email me

my address is kanebarrett@worldnet.att.net
