first comment, and one of my few actually...
Anyway, I don't use them because I haven't seen a lot of good emulators for the TI89 (which is the one I own), and some of them don't work at all.....hope someone comes with a good one soon...let me know....

I've never had any ever since I first downloaded it (that's about 2 years).

TI-14? Obviously not a graphing calculator.

I have VTI for the 89. It works just fine. I only use it to test programs I have made (in C) so that if it crashes the calculator, it won't hurt my real 89.

crashes never have to hurt your calculator. Just archive everything, and if you get an Address Error or the 'black bar of death' at the top of the screen, hit 2nd+Left+Right+ON. Nothing in your archive will be lost, unlike TI's 2nd+(+Right+ON or whatever (which erases everything). If that doesn't work, pop a batter out and put it back in. Voila, archive intact.

VTI really needs support for the TI-30X Solar. Can you believe that .7734 doesn't look like "hello" in windows calculator? What's the point of having a calculator if you can't even type hello? We need to start focusing on the real priorities here.

V-ti is a great TI-89 emulator. In fact I have never had a problem with it. Just have it get the ROM image from your calc and load it and you can always test programs without putting them on your calc.

89/92p/83p roms
joelt  Account Info

To find 89 roms, you can go to my page, click ti calculators, and in the new page scroll to the bottom. There, you will find links to AMS 1.00, 1.05, 2.03, 2.04, and 2.05, which will run VTI. To get 92p rom's, d/l them from TI, and for 83p roms, go to www.graphicsstudio.net, click on forums, click Virtual TI, and click the one titled how to get a clean ti83 plus v1.12 rom. For others, use the rom dumper prog from VTI, or find one somewhere (there are probably some here).

You do realize that having these roms is illegal?

Just checking... because if TI finds out you have them online they will probably end up sueing you if you don't take them off. It's happened before.

To the best of my knowledge, TI has never actually sued anyone about roms, although they did send out a number of rather unfriendly cease-and-desist orders. Those may be what you are thinking of.

Actually, they aren't really ROM's, they are FLASH upgrades, although I don't think a court would care about that. I am wondering something. If you guys want me to, I can email the person explaining that the "ROM"'s from my site aren't actually ROM's and at one time were actually downloadable from TI's website for free. If you don't care, then I won't.

I have found this site that has FLASH UPDATES, not ROM images, available for download for the 89. I haven't d/l'ed them b/c I already have those on my HD. Note: The FLASH updates were previously available for d/l from TI's web site.

TI is totally dumb about it, you can send an e-mail to them and ask "I have a TI-89 and the cord got pulled during a base code transfer so I need to send it using my computer. I want the version (x.xx) ams, could you please send me a copy" if its not the one they currently have for download. I did this lots of times to get roms for vti, and they work.

Hey, I just saw TI made you take them down. Haha...I've had something similar done to me but in my case, it was an unfair legal complaint. I got a similar cease and desist letter over something that didn't infringe on anyone's copyright but they somehow used the legal system to get the better of me. Ahh...our legal system at its finest.

Wow, I never thought they actually WOULD do anything... I'm surprised they didn't end that letter with an offer to take your soul in exchange for the ROMS.

All your base are belong to TI...

I also agree, VTI stinks.
I can always get my ROM to download when needed (I have a TI-83 Plus), but it stays at about 40% of the actual calculator. I have 128 MB of RAM and a Pentium II processor, there is definetely something wrong with VTI.

You know, if you right click on the emulator, go to the drop-right menu that says "Emulator Options", I'll bet you have "Restrict to Actual Speed" checked... plus, if you have a High LCD update rate and anything but a 2x view, that slows it down... and, just to make sure, make it show the actual speed... because I only have 64megs and it runs at 110% at some points.

It took me three tries to load a TI-83 plus ROM. They tend to freeze near the end of the ROM trasfer, or the ROM received just wont "turn on" or Reset in VTI. TI-83 Plus calculators tend to freeze more often.

I have a problem with the VTI emulator for TI-89...
I am frequently testing my two player games that I have really gotten into making recently... and it goes about 5 times slower on VTI than it does on two real calculators. Other than two calc stuff it works great.

I actually contacted TI about this problem and they said that the GraphLink software (and then I guess all links like the GraphLink in general) do not work w/ ME. They said to wait until the end of th year when the come out w/ their new link software, whatever it's called. TI sux! Why should I wait till the end of the year?!

Ahhhh… finally people are beginning to realize the absolute idiocy of Windows. Windows has almost never worked for any purpose for me. In fact Microsoft in general in just really pathetic. Their only worthwile program is MIE (Internet Explorer) for Macintosh.
I use VTI often enough myself, however. It runs my TI-86 with no problems.
