Assuming the poll author meant graphics as drawings, not as stat plots or Y= stuff I voted Combination of ASM+BASIC.
I used to program in pure BASIC before (that was several years ago) but then I found asm libs to un/archive asm programs in basic (it was Zflash I think) and I made lot of RPGs using it. As you might guess it wasn't efficient at all (I had to change my batteries every two weeks because of all garbage collect messages >.<). Then came flash gordon... and now xLIB. ASM libs for BASIC has improved a lot since the past years. Now you can make graphical BASIC games with scrolling and it isn't that slow and very playable. Only downside is the amount of sub programs required to play the games as they grow huge very fast with all those maps and sprites.
Next better steps would be assembly but before I got a computer at home I got used so much to basic that I have an hard time learning asm and seeing what some asm programmers did to basic programmers in the TI community I dont feel like contributing to the z80 asm scene anymore
Anyway now to tell you I tried making a Racing game with two stat plot lists/graphics... eew...
