I just delete the program and find another one with less bugs.

Somewhat hubristic, but certainly an attractive solution.

My programs must contain no bugs, since nobody's ever contacted me. Except... zarel. You need to get in touch with him, as you seem to share that much. But he never responds to emails, so good luck.

Good idea. You could also base it on who has logged in in the past few (3?) months.

Hmmm. Maybe you should check your user number. I would think over sixty-one thousand users is a lot. You must be used to Slashdot.

You also should check your grammar. Using the wrong form of "sight" is simply unacceptible. Where's Lord Nightrose when you need him?

I see that no one has chosen (so far) #6. Our next survey could be directed at authors:
What do you do when users tell you that your program has a bug?
fix it and immediately release a new version
fix it when I have time
Who listens to users anyway all they do is wine?
What is an author?
I don't make programs that have bugs

I actually have chosen #6, my reason being I am relatively new to the calculator community, and I don't download any asm progs.

That's true don't you hate it when you have to search through 100 lines of code just to fix 1 bug it takes forever.

True. In that case, the best option would be to use TI's Graphlink software to edit, and then an emulator to test it. Of course, when you only have your calc, you still just have to scroll through the entire program....

(try some commas next time; really, they do enhance the meaning of a post...)

On a side note, why exactly did TI release its TI-Connect software without a program editor? Were they just lazy, or what?

Yeah, but as mentioned in the news article, it doesn't yet recompile the source code, so you'd still need something like the Graphlink editor.

a bug just means that the program does not work properly. not that it crashes. but if it crashes that is usualy a boug.

unless the program is a virus.
then it only has a bug if your calc doesnt crash

Not all viruses cause crashes...some just try to amuse or annoy the user. In that case, failing to amuse/annoy the user could be considered a bug...hence annoy is a better target for virus writers. :)

Some just reproduce as silently as possible. I'm working on one of those. (Don't worry, it doesn't make your calc break or anything. If you don't know where its harmless telltale is, you won't even notice it.) I'm also going to release an antidote at the same time.

No disrespect intended, but you know, your handle is strangely appropriate...

That said, I fail to see the point of creating a calculator virus; surely there are better applications of one's programming genius.

Uh, yeah, especially since you have to put the virus on your calc to use it...and who would do that?

It checks the serial number; if it's been moved to a different calc then it increments a counter. Regardless, it proceeds to infect everything (all cleam ASM programs, that is) in sight.

It works just fine, but it makes the TIOS crash about 10,000 instructions after the final RTS. (If anybody wants to take a look at my code and offer suggestions, I'd rejoice.)

I wrote one of those great little basic viruses...
Damn, those things are fun.
This is how it works:
1.Make it look like a game or something (mine is antivirus software)
2.display "End", so the program looks like it finished
3.Input("",X) to get input and make it look like the program is still finished
4.Add/subtract a random, but small ammount from the answer and display it (make sure the ammount is small enough not to be detected, but large enough to get the question wrong)
5.LAUGH! (you just managed to piss somebody off!)

Ain't it great?

Smart people(there's not too many of those these days) would be able to figure it out.

1. The run indicator would be on.
2. Done would not be displayed(Though, you could just do Disp " Done)
3. After it displays the wrong answer, it would say "Done"

You could get past all this with asm.

Also, that's not a virus. A virus must "infect" files(see link).

Sorry, but it does display "Done". That was one of my steps.
The program isn't meant to trick people who know their way around a calculator. It's more for pissing off stupid people who ask to borrow you calculator too often.
