I have an 84+ with a clock, but I rarely use it. I use to use it as a clock and set it when the ram cleared, but it has become such a hassel that I find it not really worth it. The only time I use it is during math tests or when I forget my watch.

I hate that 84+/se's store the time in Ram. I frequently clear my ram, on acciddent usually, and I have to reset the clock a lot. What a hassle.

That's why you use Omnicalc to recover your RAM!

For some reason on my 84+se, Omnicalc doesnt work. I install it, set my preferences, use my calc, and turn it off. The next time I use my calc, the settings dont affect it. No Ram recovery, entries menu, etc. Every time I have to reset my settings. Its weird and I cant fix it. Also, what are tasker and key hooks?

Do you have Mirage, Kyrolpto or any other app that uses hooks. If so, Omnicalc is not always compatable (although it is completely compatable with symbolic :) ) And if you are trying to keep your clock set with the ram recovery, it won't work! :(

Omnicalc works perfectly well with MirageOS and Krolypto and Symbolic on my calc. However, the RAM recovery feature doesn't always work correctly. Recovering RAM can cause calc instability, quickly leading to another RAM clear for no apparent reason (trust me, it's happened to me before). About all it's good for (when it works) is retrieving a program I had in RAM and getting it archived before I manually reset my RAM to get rid of any errors.

I have Mirage OS, v1.2, and Symbolic installed on my calc. The problem persists...

What are tasker and key hooks?

What version Omnicalc do you have? (1.26 is the latest and stablest, I believe...)

Omnicalc is a really cool app for the TI-83+/84+ family that adds a lot of nice features to the calculator, such as RAM recovery, fast Apps menu, adding commas to thousands, entries menu, extra functions, and a lot more.

When paired with Symbolic, Graph3, PolySmlt (free, from TI), Pretty Print, SciTools, CabriJr (free, from TI), and NoteFolio (free, from TI), your TI-83+/84+ can do nearly anything the TI-85/86/89/92/92+/V200 can do.

Omnicalc's ultimate companion, Symbolic, can be found at:

I completely agree; I clear my RAM frequently as well. What a shortsighted design! If a clock is not reliable, I don't use it...Maybe this is a sign for some creative programmer to create a clock program that stores the time in the ROM....

Actually, I have heard that the clock is store in rom. When the calculator resets, the OS sends a byte to some port and resets it! Check out the web page above ^^ for more info. That being the case, I don't know what you could do about that except complain to TI and wait for the gold eddition :)

Is it possible for some program to moniter this and save the time when it happens?

You'd have to do it with some sort of interrupt. That said, I have no idea how you would detect a RAM clear as it is happening...

you'd have to have a background programming running all the while the calc is on checking commands, waiting for a reset, or you'd have to have something that works thru the OS, or your own OS, all things that are a tremendous waste of time to make for something so simple as preventing a clock reset. besides, as soon as the batteries run out...

Well you could make an interrupt routine that would check for manual ram resets, but you would never be able to predict ones caused by battery pulls, or program failures.

Obviously the best option would be to write a new OS (or maybe modify TIOS?). With a new OS you could solve a lot of issues with TIOS. That said, I know of only two alternative OS's....It would be a (very) large undertaking....

I think there was one for 83+, but it used some TIOS code and the author got sued.
