Some of my files don't have screenshots, although I included some when I uploaded them. Seems to be a bug.

There actually is a sleight error in the system that I never really thought important enough to fix.

If it has been a while since new files have been added and you did upload screenshots with them put they have yet ot be processed. On both the author page and directory pages it will show the file with the correct icon, despite the screenshot not being added yet.

So if you hve the icon but no screenshots on the page that meanse they are still in pending.

A picture of a program that is running. The programs that have red icons next to the "NAME.zip" have regular screenshots, blue = animated screenshots, white = nothin' special, and green = ticalc featured program...

Any program that doesn;t work properly, like say for example a math program that gives wrong answers should be reported to the author and then if you see no update in some time, you can report the file and if confirmed by the file archiver they can delete it.

When we have done the screenshotting projects in the past we not only screenshot them, but literally moved hindreds of files into the correct folders, created new folders as needed, deleted hundreds of files, and just plain flat out clean up the archives a whole crap load!

From the get go I never kept stats on the number of files moved, deleted, et cetrera but I think many of you wold be shocked. Specifically last year I remember removing around 160 files in the 82 directory which were actually 83+ files with the extensions renamed to .82p. It was rather rewarding and felt great :-)

It's pain to download a program with an incorrect tag and then to load it in VTI which pretty much crashes the ROM. Then it needs to be altered to the right one. I remember seeing a few such programs and the file type could be identified in the added readme.txt which usually said "blah blah my cool basic program for the 83 plus"

Sorry, no ROM links are allowed here

Ticalc cannot host ROM images as that would be a copyright infringement. TI doesn't appear to care too much about people putting ROM images on the net, but Ticalc is one of the main sites, so it would draw too much attention, which in turn would mean Ticalc would get into trouble with TI.
Anyway, if you just send an email to ti-cares@ti.com and ask for a ROM image they'll usually send you the one you requested (sometimes attached to an email saying "unfortunately we cannot give you this file" :S ).

@#(*$#%)$#@%! Great... They told me that they wouldn't give me a rom, that it was illegal to use a rom, and that if i need an emulator i should use the sdk, wtf? Also, they told me that i should not use any third-party software to obtain a rom because it is not safe and that it would woid my warranty. Then, they tried to sell me a 84+ SE claiming that the 83+ was outdated and useless(they have a point).

"They told me [..] that it was illegal to use a rom": only if you don't own the actual calculator.
"If i need an emulator I should use the sdk": that's as true as 'if you need a PC, Windows is the only way to go'. In fact, there are a lot of other emulators out there, and VTI (especially the never-finished version 3) works a lot better than the SDK emu.
"They told me that I should not use any third-party software to obtain a rom because it is not safe and that it would void my warranty." Too bad all software to obtain ROMs is third-party. Oh, and I don't see what's not save about them, all they do is swap a couple of pages, read them and send them out over the link port. The last point is even stranger; because they won't be able to tell whether you tried dumping your ROM, I'm curious how they're gonna void your warranty over it. In short, this is just TI trying to blame everything on someone else, they also have a habbit of blaming MirageOS for a lot of trouble that's their own stupid mistake.
"They tried to sell me a 84+ SE claiming that the 83+ was outdated and useless." if the 83+ is useless, the 84+SE is useless too, as the only useful thing they added is extra Flash (which btw the 83+SE had already).

Anyway, just send the mail again. It'll end up and some other TI employee, and chances are it's an employee that's a little nicer. If not, simply try another time. (And hacking an SDK ROM is also always an option ofcourse.)

They just want you to use their software and no one else's, and if they don't have as good software as the third-party stuff, then it's "unsafe" just because it's not theirs. (Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm half asleep at the moment)

They do have a point though. You can destroy a calculator with an assembly program used to dump roms. Hense they'd probably say the same thing about any third party APPs and computer software if it came down to that since they're not liable.
I might be wrong on this but I think a copy of a ROM on you computer has to be the same as that of the one on you calculator. So they wouldn't be able to send you just any ROM.
They could update the SDK though! (or has it been? from 1.16?) The SDK can be used to run the 73, 83+, 83+SE APPs, ASM Programs and Basic programs. Then you can use IrfanView or Calc Capture to screenshot the SDK whilst running and use both programs shortcut keys which crop and image and save it.
It's a good legit way to screenshot and should probably be documented for newbies.

The calcs TI makes are pretty well protected. For instance, there are very few ways to crash a TI using only TI Basic. To the best of my knowledge, there is *not a single way* to do *permanent* damage to your calc using only TI Basic and the link port (well, putting 220 on the link port should do the trick, but you get what I mean).
While I am aware of the possibility to inflict permanent damage with assembly code, it's very hard to do. More specifically, you have to hack your way past the safeguards put there by TI (that is, unlock Flash or install a custom OS), otherwise the calc is still protected against permanent damage.

You don't, VTI 3.0 is still in Alpha (and, it seems, will be forever). One of the things not implemented yet is file transfer...
To get files on your calc, use the SDK; send everything you need to the SDK emulator, save the state and extract the ROM (delete the RAM image and the other junk) from the saved file. Put that in your VTI 3.0 directory, start VTI and choose the ROM image you just created.

I think TI has a policy that they don't supply roms now... I keep getting replies that I can use the SDK and that TI does not make or support use of third party emulation software. Also, I keep getting told to a) buy a TI-84+SE b) to buy a 68k calc, and c) to get one of those overhead projector thingies

Brief Tutorial on how to use Google.com/search?q=:
- think of a few keywords and which are most likely the ones you'd expect to find on a site
- arrange the words in a grammatically correct order
- use acronyms where possible if full words don't return results
- use "" to set the string to exact for accuracy

For Example:
- To find a Texas Instruments 83 Plus OS with version 1.12 you'd use "Ti83+" and would still need to have the word "version" to define "1.12" (v is too ambiguous)
- This would become "Ti83+ version 1.12"
- Press "Search" and your results should appear

Disclaimer: "This post is only to inform users in methods of using Google to search for TI related content. I will not be held responsible if Google doesn't return any results." ;-P

You'd have to hack 'TI83Plus_OS118.8Xu' and 'TI83Plus.clc' since they're not 512KB and hense not compliant. Although my above tutorial on google should work just fine to find what your looking for.

Perhaps you can stop trolling and just use 1.12. I doubt that VTI can even handle 1.18. It doesn't even emulate the SE properly.
As for teaching you how to hack those files, that question in itself is stupid. hacking = trial and error problem solving... shall I teach you how to come up with errors? or the trials?

I thought TiLP could dump off of a silverlink. I might be mistaken, but as other posters have suggested email TI or just google for a little while. If you look around for, say, an 89 ROM or another that might be more likely to be made available online somewhere, you may just find a complete directory of ROM images. I did [not ;)]!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Would you participate in the 2005 Screenshot Project?

For the last time, TiLP doesn't support silverlinks. It will send the dumping program to your calculator and wait for you to run it. Then, when you run it, TiLP goes all screwed up and returns some link error. The link error then persists each time you attempt to retry. Thus, your asm program that is running on-calc will never quit and you have to clear your ram.
