Except for the USB port, I don't see any advantage in getting an 89Ti, I mean, all the software I use has to be recompiled for the titanium, and I don't get very many extra features. I got a hold of one at staples, and the "warped" keyboard layout is very hard to get used to.

The 89 ti uses totally different Advanced Mathamatics Software (3.0) that is why a lot of 89 prgms don't work on it. (ex:PreOS)

Well duh. But it is NOT totally different, AMS 3.0 only adds support for USB, the Mathematics software is exactly the same in functionality as 2.09.

You can also delete archived programs (with a warning first) so badly written BASIC file explorers don't throw as many errors.

True, most ASM programs are incompatible with the 89TI. Most can be patched to work; see the link above (HW3Patch, Iceberg, GhostBuster...)
Almost all programs I've patched with these tools work well.

Hmm...
Are there problems with regular 89 BASIC programs too? Because I got an 89Ti and put MathSoft on it (to figure out how BASIC worked on the 89...), and when I ran it and pressed ON (to break the program and look at the code), it threw an error and completely crashed the whole calculator...only the 2nd, Diamond, and Shift keys responded, but none of the actual functions worked...

And I wasn't able to open the backup battery slot because they had screwed in the screw too tight, so I just exchanged it for a new one. :-D But now I didn't put any external 89-made BASIC programs...just my own, at least until I figure out why this is happening.

To look at the code, just open the program from the program editor...pressing ON is not the best way to do it...

Are there any plans for puting a 89ti option on the account information page? Or possibaly even the archives? There are alot more diffrences between the 89 and 89ti (like compatibility!) then the 83+ and 84+.

Yes, I agree.
1) It uses different Advanced Mathamatics Software.
2)Most of the 89 programs don't work on it.
3)It looks different and has new features.
;On a side note: All you guys who are saying that the 89 ti is practically the same as the 89 don't know what they are talking about!

I haven't had the opportunity to use one of the new 89ti's yet. I'm curious to hear from those who have:

Apart from the USB and the extra flash ROM, what sort of new features does it have?

Are the incompatibilities in software due to different hardware, or just different restrictions imposed by the OS? Is AMS 3.00 actually fundamentally incompatible with HW1 and HW2 89's, or is it just that TI has restricted the calculator certificates it can be installed on? If TI were to release AMS 3.0 for its older 89's, 92+'s and V200's, would the incompatibilities go away?

-Other new features: archived file delete with warning. Not much else, at least that I've found.

-Most incompatibilities are the result of the elimination of ghost space.

If TI were to release AMS 3.00 for 89, 92+, and V200, then nothing would work.

The TI-83 and TI-89 are practically the same! You can run the same programs on both, right? Right?!

You're in dream land. TI has abandoned the 86...the "87" you speak of, the "updated 86" is actually called the "TI 89"... :)
