In celebration of the new year, I think ticalc.org should get an ASCII logo, kind of like this one. Okay... copy this and paste it into a text editor with a monospaced font. Remove the two columns of spaces. Then replace every asterisk with a space.

OK, PLEASE tell me that you didn't spend the hours it must have taken to do that, and that you had a PROGRAM do it for you!!! (I have to admit, that was pretty cool :)

Hey, I never noticed that zelda was in the background of the logo! I am sure the creator of it is proud.

I don't see zelda herself, but I see the tree. The cliff doesn't look quite right though. Anyone remember Link to the Past? Im still trying to decide my fav: LTTP or wind waker? hmmmmm I think LTTP was completely revolutionary and better than OOT of course. I like how LTTP emphasized puzzles, but OOT and WW emphasize plot (especially WW). MM has a good many of puzzles and lots of plot, but not as much as WW. For hardness factor, LTTP is easily the hardest. MM pretty much just boggles you, with few real puzzles. The only exception is going to be Stone Tower Temple which is one big puzzle. Also I hate how in MM and OOT, the bosses are always in this deep hole all alone and trapped by a million locked doors and bottomless pits. How could they get out? I mean, the Fire Temple of oot is practical because you see the boss door nearly from the start. The rest of the temple, off to the sides, is just to get the key. This kind of practicality is retained throuhout WW, for example the air spirit, some kind of winged dragon, can just fly off his perch down to the ground, but the mountain he is sitting on is filled with the baddies and puzzles. The keys and treasures are the plunder belonging to the baddies themselves, and the simple puzzles usually made by them to guard their treasure. The Boss Key is usually entrusted to a big fighter, available on demand if the Boss needs it; not buried in some chasm. And the realism of WW is amazing, for example if you smash one guy's pots, he makes you pay for them, while in LTTP, you can go choppin at chickens and breaking peoples' pots and nobody cares. BTW in WW, the whole 'chickens attack' think is with pigs! it's so cool, all these cute lil piggies attacking you with their snouts.

And make sure you have a small, monotype font.

Just copy in notepad. Edit replace the type " " and nothing in the other, then replace all. Then type "*" in the first, and " " in the other, then replace all, then you have the pic.

Yep :) The program did a pretty good job, actually. I did a little test to see how it works... it has sixteen different characters, each standing for a different level of gray. There's 16 of them, I guess, for 00, 11, 22, ..., CC, DD, EE, FF. It's actually a pretty simple program... the only hard part would be being able to read the BMP/JPG. I don't know the routines for that. I'd be interested in learning though. I was trying to figure out how the format for a BMP works with File I/O in QB, but I eventually gave up.
Also, converting the text back to an image might be an interesting thing to try. It would be easier. The only thing is, it wouldn't look nearly as good as the original image (much color loss), but ah well. Neat program. I stumbled upon it yesterday and decided to download it.

it would turn out rediculously low-quality, probably to the point where you couldnt see it. You wouldnt be able to retian color...

BTW I had this idea:
have a php script open a pic and cycle through the pic, pixel by pixel, and for each pixel it adds a 1x1 cell to an html table with 0 cell -spacing and -padding. So by the time it's done, you have the image, in perfect quality, written in pure HTML. This way, you could encode images into a script, to make piracy very hard. The script would print the table. You would call the script through SSI within a set-boundary table or even an inline frame. I found a python script on the internet that does it, but its html output has cell borders. Does anybody know where I can find a php version?

Right, it would be grayscale and with poor quality, but you'd still get something back. :) I really should make a program to do that, just to see how it turns out. It seems easy enough...

Actually, I did it all by hand. Really... it just took a while. I mean, not like I have anything better to do with my time........ eh, just kidding, I used a program, but <shh> maybe someone will seriously think I did it by hand ;-)
