heh heh, don't think I caught that generic "holidays". Why can't you just say Christmas? I've never seen an islamic person offended by it, in fact (to my understanding) they celebrate their own version, but most still respect the traditional Christmas.
Any replies? how many here would be offended if it said Christmas?
I could just be paranoid and it's talking about Christmas and the New Year as "holidays"... tell me please if I am.

It's not just Islamic people who don't celebrate Christmas... Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Hindus... the list goes on. I don't know if people would be offended by it or not, but it's the politically correct way to do things.

Well, it's also politically correct to refer to blacks as "african-americans", but I'm not going around telling people to call me "european-american"...No offense by the way to anyone...I'm not racist what-so-ever...

No, you are caucasian. However, Ihave never been able to locate exactly where the great white motherland of caucasia is. One day I hope to discover it, and be a very rich man.

1. There is no way your comment could be construed as racist.

2. You do not need to defend yourself.

3. Defending yourself only makes it seem like you're hastingly trying to pretend you aren't racist, as an effort to fit in. Much in the same way that making a bunch of homophobic jokes often makes it seem like you're hastingly trying to pretend you aren't gay ;D

Well, my family's Jewish, but I'm not offended by the word "Christmas"-I think the "Politically correct winter holidays" thing is overdone and stupid.

It's just an affirmation of how Christians run the country. It was intended originally as Christmas, and is Christmas. [I'm an atheist don't flame me]

As a Christian, I now must ask you both an obligatory question:

Why are you atheists?

     30 December 2003, 02:58 GMT

¤

Because I have no religious beliefs. :-P

     30 December 2003, 22:21 GMT

What is it with all these "¤" things?
ti_is_good_++  Account Info

I am an atheist because I find reasoning in science, and not religion. People who use the scientific method as a way of living have free minds and are not controlled by irrational cultists or nutso politicians. The question "Why?" has a history of advancing the state of humanity and preventing a lot of church-sponsored idiocy, and so I make it an integral part of my life. The concept of blind faith has no place in a doctrine of unmitigated reason.

THANK YOU.
There are so many non-Christians I know that think it's not right to call it the Christmas season. IT IS the Christmas season. It is also the Hanukkah season, the Kwanzaa season, etc. Just because you fail to mention the other holidays doesn't mean you're prejudiced!

Anywho, What is Kwanzaa any why? What is it celeberating anyway?

Whats so bad about saying holidays? I'm Jewish and my neighbhor is Hindu. If you say christmas that means that you think that everybody celebrates christmas (WHICH IS WRONG)

No, if you say "Christmas", that means you YOU celebreate Christmas. Just because one person does doesn't mean you have to, also. People do have freedom of speech, religion, etc. I really think people overreact about this.

Ramadan was a while ago, buddy.

Ramadan FAQ: When is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. For the year 1424 H. (2003-2004), Ramadan will be from approximately October 26 to November 24, 2003. The actual dates will depend on the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the beginning of the Islamic month.

I think the teachers aren't allowed to say Christmas at our school. :( Though, I've heard every one of them say it, so either it's not enforced, or it doesn't matter to them. And you're absolutely right, I wouldn't be offended if somebody said "Happy Hannukah" to me, either.

I think that technically, they aren't. If think all it takes is for somebody to make a complaint. :( That is kind of ridiculous, though.

What ever happened to the "Majority Rules" part of democracy? It seems to me that small groups of people have more power than the majority. It is weird.

Damn, really?

I did not mean 50%, I mean that there is a simple majority, meaning that christians are a larger group than the others. if I am wrong on that point, then I am sorry.
