2nd post!
Now that OS1.15 supports it, I might just buy a handy-dandy keyboard...

Last time I looked at the pictures of the keyboard It did not seem to have function keys, besides I'd feel like a moron lugging it around.

a lot of research is needed on this dubious keyboard of theirs. how can we be sure how useful it is if we have no clue about its exact functionality? for instance, should we think that the absence of function keys will be made up for by the presence of special shortcuts (e.g. shift + g = graph or something)?

I may buy one, mainly for programming and ostentatious note-taking. If I do, I'll report back to you, Captain, Sir.

note taking, yes; but it can't be used in the programming screen. I intend to use it for note taking. screw the other kids opinions, let them get cramped, callused, and lead covered hands!

the organizer will be released for 89 a little after the keyboard is. That will be a great combination. The only thing I don't like about the keyboard is that you can't fold it.

not being able to fold it will hurt its sales, dumb move ti.
Im not gonna get one just because I use a newton to take note instead, then I can print straight from it, and do my homework, all on one machine!

Hey, nothing's perfect. There's a first for everything, and I appreciate TI for its efforts.

I'll smile too! 8^) I'd actually like to see a real life view of the keyboard, to closely study it...

Screw you - it can be used anywhere on the 68k calcs.
(It's actually a "Motorola M68ECS000" .)

I'm undecided. The detail issue is a valid point, but who needs function keys? If you're using the keyboard, the calculator should be right next to you. As for "feeling like a moron", the keyboard doesn't look much bigger than a calculator, and you don't need the cradle (I hope). Of course, you could hook up a PS/2 keyboard, but those aren't OS-supported, and are typically much bigger and less portable. As for support, before long the protocol will be reverse-engineered, and there will be programs for all calcs.

The 68k protocol is already known, and the notefolio protocol will be before long.

I don't really think that a TI Keyboard is necessary ... I can type on my 83+ just fine. But it's not that the Keyboard isn't useful. I could sure use it with NoteFolio.

I might get it, I still need to decide whether or not it's worth $40. I have a feeling my teachers wouldn't like me taking notes on my 89, so it probably won't be worth the money. On the 89, will the notefolio-independent typing work in AMS 2.05 or will i have to downgrade to 2.08?

Me too.

It will work anywhere, because the TI-89 uses the following link protocol for recieving keys:

1 word or 1 byte: something to say "hey this is a key" to the AMS
1 word: the actual code of the key
The code is inserted into the TIOS's event loop and processed like a real key.
Alternately, you can put the calc into remote mode (remotely or locally), but then you have to do one of:
a) reset it
b) wait for the APD
c) turn it off remotely
d) send a fiendishly difficult to remember string of keys to take it out of remote mode.

so does this mean that it would be possible to use the built-in and the external keyboard simultaneously? that would explain the absence of the function keys - they could be entered from the built-in keyboard.
