2,200 Files Get Screenshots!
Posted by Morgan on 27 October 2003, 10:25 GMT
Earlier this summer, an article was posted requesting help with a very large task of screenshotting the archives. Summer has come and gone and with everyone back in school there is very little time to continue with this project. The response I got was overwhelming. It came to the point where I was having trouble organizing it all by myself. I had e-mails from everyone willing to learn, help, and teach me about screenshotting. I would like to thank everyone that helped, especially Rob van Wijk who contributed 500+ screenshots, and made a severe dent in the TI-83 Assembly directory. Over 3,500 screenshots were created and added to the site. As of this date the entire 86, 89, 92, and V200 assembly directories are complete. As well, a huge dent has been made in the 82, 83 and 83+ assembly directories. The V200 basic directory and most of the 73, 80, and 81 directories have also been completed. While this project is far from complete, it won't be worked on for some time, at least not by me. I know how you all will miss the shots :-) Everyone is still welcome to send me pics if they have the time. Instead I am starting something that will benefit y'all even more! I'm in the progress of updating the hardware, basics, and programming pages. I have already fixed many broken links on the hardware pages. Please e-mail me any updates, broken links, and additions that can be added to these pages. Mostly I need help with concepts that would fit on the hardware page. For example, Xpand has recently been added to the expanders page. I know there are many more out there, just need help finding them all. I know how everyone loves stats, so I kept track of who did what during the screenshot project. If you sent me screenshots, no matter the number, you ended up in this table. Yeah, they've been doing a great job...most of the time when I upload one of my programs, I'll find that a screenshot has been added.

Let's hear it for FAKE SCREENSHOTS!
The MTSQuest screenshot is so unbelievably fake, it's obviously a flash movie converted to a .gif. First of all:
no motion blur, yet grayscale?
Fading objects and not the screen at the same time? (changing contrast can fade the screen to white)
The zoom out effect at the end IS the zoom effect from flash, complete with anti-aliasing.
Yeah, forged screenshots are nice...
Although I do understand it's supposed to be a trailer, or preview for the game, and it looks nice, but it's misleading to claim it as an animated screenshot of the actual game.

Well, if it's a flash movie based on actual screenshots, and the program itself looks almost as good as the movie, I don't really see the problem.
Regarding your second point, the fading, that could also be because of the use of an emulator, instead of a real calc.
When somebody uploads a screenshot that the program itself doesn't come close to, I see the problem, but (to the best of my knowledge) that is not the case here.

I never said that I got it from the actual calc. Hell, I never explicitly stated that it was a screenshot in the first place. If you go to my webpage you can check out the actual TRAILER which is, surprise surprise, the flash movie I converted to a .gif
actually, the TRAILER (not animated screenshot, nor screenshot of any kind) is what I've had in mind for an actual movie trailer if and when I get my game made into a movie ^_^
now, if you REALLY wanna get all pissy about it, then fine, I'll make some actual screenshots just so your panties don't bunch up but then, where's the mystery? if you know what happens in the game, why bother downloading it?

Whoa, I'd better get busy!! I'm working on some TIGCC projects, and I need to finish them so I can upload my programs to ticalc.org so people can use them. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll get screenshots. :-)
