Morgan is Hiring!
Posted by Morgan on 8 July 2003, 18:40 GMT

For those of you who have read the June 2003 Newsletter, you might recall me thanking some members of the community for help with making screenshots. Seeing how it is summer and school is out for most of us, I thought it to be a good time to announce that I am looking for more help. I am in the process of screenshotting all ASM and Flash directories in the archives, except routine and library folders. I have already finished the 86, 89, 92, and the entire Voyage 200 directories. If you have time and want to be a part of this process, e-mail me at morgan@ticalc.org.

Even if you have never made a screenshot before, I will show you how to make both animated and still pics. Assuming you have a calculator of course :-) And for all who think I am obsessed with screenshots...you might be right!!

Update (Morgan): So far we've had 39 interested, not including Joey, but including me :-) We could still use more in the 82, 85, and 92+ directories! It also seems that there are a large number interested in screenshotting the BASIC sections. All calcs have BASIC files to screenshot if you are interested. I have also written a documentation on my knowledge of screenshots if you just want to know how to make screenshots for your own files.

Total screenshots added = 1,613

Should make it noted that, if you would like to help it is only a temporary job. Thus you won't become a permanent member of ticalc.org :-(

Should we e-mail you again, or just send you more screenies? I'd be happy to help, tell me if you want me to e-mail you and I will.

I'm BACK, GUYS!

Maybe I should get back into the screenshotting again. It was kinda fun. And now that it's the summer, my two major camps are over (I just came back from one--see below), and I'll have a heck of a lot of free time, I don't think it would be a problem. Is anybody new going to join and help?

--
Did anybody miss me at all? (I hope so)
I'm surprised that when I came back there was only one new article to read. I thought there would be three or four :) I'm tired from soccer camp, and glad to be back on the computer again.

I wondered where you were, but decided that Michael was just deleting all your posts (like he does mine).

I am currently at camp, tho not nearly as fun a one as yours. Mine's DEBATE CAMP!!!! Of all the horrible things I could waste my life doing, this is the most boring. At least I have lots of free time, my laptop, and a T2 connection at my disposal.

Can I help? Last time I said I couldn't, but now I have VTI and a screenshot maker. One day when I got REALLY bored, downloaded a bunch of TI 89 BASIC files and made screenshots of them. Let me know if you want them. :)

Yeah, I agree that it would be great if every program had screenshots. However, I think it would also be good, mb even better, if every program had a bunch of reviews. Why not recruit a volunteer review staff? Too many times I have downloaded a program based on its name or readme alone, only to discover that it was totally worthless later on. Recruit some reviewers, too!

Yeah, and there could be review editors or something, so if somebody like me made a review with a flagrant spelling error, then it could be fixed. I tried making a sample review on my own for fun a couple times.

yes, it would be good to have something like that soon. I'd have to say that that is the one aspect of ticalc that I want to come back, that and POTM.

Individual Program Discussion Boards!
saitei Account Info
(Web Page)

How about separate 'discussion boards' for each program? Have the author weed out the ones they don't think are appropriate, to save the staff time and server space...prob with that, of course, is that the author would weed out all the negative comments. heh. :P

Seriously...maybe not a whole discussion board, but even 'user reviews', which could be approved by the staff and/or the author, that can't be replied to, by anyone but the author...after all, you don't want huge threads on every program.

I would be willing to write the code, if you let me use PHP and MySQL. :) (sorry, i haven't learned much past that...i'm working on it.)

-----
BTW, on another note, I just picked up the TI-Keyboard...spent $52 on it at Office Depot, but I couldn't live without it...It was almost worth the money for that little cradle you get with it...:) I've spent more time fiddling with the comp<-->calc cable then I have sending stuff...now with the cradle, it stays perfect! (I sound like an ad, don't I? :) Sorry bout that, just been wanting to say that. :P

More discussions == More memory needed == More money needed

That's why i'm saying try to slim it down a good bit. Not a full discussion board for each one, just a little list of user reviews. It wouldn't take up that much space overall. I mean, this is a file archive place, they can handle plenty more, what's a few bytes of text for each file, really?

And btw, it wouldn't take up any memory, but it would take up hard drive space. :P

That's a few bytes times 10.000's of files.....

Why not just delete all the really old discussions from the news archives? I doubt anyone ever reads those anymore.

Morgan is already done with the 86 and 89... he needs people for other calcs.

Actually, he's only done with ASM for the 86 and 89, so anyone with any calc can help out.

The v200 directory should be completely done now, even the basic. There weren't that many programs so I just got it out of the way.
