Because the TI-89 does not have the hardware memory necessary

On a TI 89, you have nearly 60 ko(/600 ko) of archive usable only by Flash apps.
That's why free ROM is different in memory(+60ko) menu than in an explorer like Hard Os.
Please make a program for Ti89 !!!

Actually, they have, kinda. Ti-89 HW1 calcs normally only have 384kb of Archive, but MaxMem nearly doubles that, providing approximately the same amount as a HW2 has.

Same with 92+ HW1 (92 w/ Plus module).

The problem is, MaxMem doesn't support AMS > 2.05, so HW1 users are kinda screwed when it comes to up6grading to newer AMS versions -- not only do they not have the built-in clock (available on ALL HW2, just not activated until AMS 2.06, which was never publically released), but they lose a bunch of archive. Which is why I still run 2.05 on my 89.

If you don't mind using the TIB Receiver to send the update, you can do the change by hand. Search for 0000000162 with a hex editor and, in the _first_ occurrence, change the 2 to a 0.

I just did a file compare before and after using the PC version of MaxMem on an AMS 2.05 update. :-)

But there is no memory to free up this way on a HW2 calculator, you can already use all your memory for archiving purposes (well, almost all: 64 KB are still reserved for FlashApps for some reason, and that's also the case with MaxMem).

I don't know, that's crazy... I don't think I'd have the patience to play around with binary/hex (whichever you prefer to look at) digits for hours and hours. It would drive me insane. I thought trying to find the format for a BMP file was hard enough.

Someone is writing an unofficial AMS replacement for the TI-89 that will expand the amount of Flash ROM available to ~ 1.7 MB. Yes, the AMS uses THAT MUCH space (~1MB).

I've heard about a project like that (PedroM for the 92). Unfortunatly, there's a reason that Ti-OS takes 1MB of space. Aside from some poor coding and useless crap, there are actually many powerful functions (Symbolic solver for arbitrary systems of equations, anyone?). Any h4x0r3d ROM that frees up a significant amount of space will be giving up a lot of features. I've heard PedroM doesn't even support exponentiation (x^y)! For those people who occasionally use their calc for math, this would seem to be a major problem.

Yes, you are right. There is a reason that we bought an 89. That reason is not the cool grayscale, or apps desktop. Why spend ~$150 on a device that does not have that complex games, just for games? The reason we bought the 89 is formaly known as a "crutch". Why would you want it if you have next to nothing of what was there before? It would be pointless, and a waste of the ~$150 you spent on it. If you really want more memory, build that CF readerfor the calc.

Yes, this is pretty much why there isn't much enthusiasm about PedroM. Rewriting the whole CAS would be a significant undertaking.

PedroM has many interesting features that AMS does not have. Those who have tested it and do not need a CAS really like it.

Just be thankful it doesn't take something like several GB, like Windows. :-) (Hope I don't start another flame war...)

PedroM is for ti-92+ / ti-89 and maybe for v200.
It supports exp / ln / sin /cos / tan (even if they are currently buggy).

Okay, I'm going to ask the question that everybody (or maybe just me) has been wondering. WHY would they allow so much space on the calculator and then not allow you to use it? That makes so sense whatsoever. That is dumb.

I'm glad we have brilliant programmers like this to increase the functionality of our calculators. After all, if it weren't for them, where would TI be? (no assembly)
