Extra Memory on the Voyage 200
Posted by Michael on 21 September 2003, 22:34 GMT

The Voyage 200 has 2.7 MB of flash memory, but only 1 MB is available for the user as archive space. With Xpand by Olivier Armand, all of it can now be used as archive memory. Xpand patches your operating system to allow full usage of the flash without interfering with the ability to install flash applications.

How many ppl actually have a V200? It's just an over-glorified 92+! Besides, who needs that much memory? And who can stand that fruity case it's in?

You get used to the case after a while. I really like this porgram. Now I have no bounds to what I ca put on the calc (except for the 64K limit :( ) I'm glad someone made this "mod" of maxmem for the V200. With out it you can only access 960KB of the archive, that is a lot, but I don't like having to swap between images evry now and then.

The 64K limit can be bypassed: _nostub DLLs or splitting other types of files

I know that, but it is rare that anyone actually does.

Flash app hider
W Hibdon  Account Info

I have a question about his Flash app hider. How does it free up any mem without deleting anything. And if it compresses, then why does he not callit an app compressor. I am very confused. Please clue me in.

FlashApps have 2 sections: a code and read-only data section in FlashROM, and a BSS (zero-initialized read-write data) section in RAM. The only part of the FlashApps which is actually needed to install them is the section in the FlashROM. The BSS section is created at runtime and used to maintain state (even while other applications are running). What FlashApp Hider does is to uninstall the applications and delete the BSS section in order to free up the RAM that the FlashApps were using. The FlashROM part is still there, so the FlashApps can be restored afterwards. Of course, the state the applications were maintaining in RAM (last opened file, some settings, ...) will be lost, just as it would when deleting the FlashApp and sending it back from a computer or from another calculator.

Thanks. If I had any apps on my calc, I would be suer to have that app hide.

I have another question about the app hider, why is it that when i use it once and let the apps uninstalled like for half a day a crap file appears in ram with a big size and doesnt dissapear until I reset the calc?, is it a bug?

No idea. Ask ExtendeD (the author).

Carlos Verduzco  Account Info

so, is it safe to use it?
Can I install it in my V200?

who has tried it?

I ask because I have this hydraulics exam the day after tomorrow, so I want to make sure my machine works.

I'll probably have time to test it in a couple of days. I can't wait for the results.

I'd recommend against testing ANY program 1 or 2 days before an important test/exam.

It is not released... yet... You can get info (and perhaps ask for a beta) here: http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?f=649 (the first public release _should_ be soon)
