AMS 2.08 Re-released
Posted by Michael on 20 February 2003, 23:54 GMT

It appears TI has been busy lately; AMS 2.08 for the 89, 92 Plus, and Voyage 200 has been re-released. It was pulled from download shortly after its original release upon the discovery of linking problems with TI Connect. Now it's been fixed and is available once again for download. You can snatch the 89, 92+, or Voyage 200 updates from TI's Online Store. Version 2.08 adds the icon desktop, new trig functions, flash app categorization, and most notably clock support.

Does this version still chop 64k off of the archive space?

Yes. It's the exact same AMS, just re-released because TI-Connect 1.2 fixed the timing problem.

know what, I never really had any problems with AMS 2.08 but that could be to the fact that I was using TILP instead of TI Connect.

Hooray for TiLP! Should I upgrade to 2.08? Are the features really worth losing 64k of archive? I have a watch, I only have one app, and I don't need those trig functions, so I don't think it's worth it.

The only cool thing (in games) that the clock would be good for, would be programming a time-based RPG. That would be interesting. Is the clock fully functional? Does it use up battery power on your calculator to run while the calc is off?

I think we discussed this when 2.08 was released before. The clock runs on a crystal, and requires minimal power to maintain time. (In otherwords, no, it doesn't drain your battery enought to notice).
w00t!

And doesn't it run anyways? So it would still waste the battery if you didn't have the clock? I dunno

Yes, the clock still drains power from the calculator even if it is deactivated. It makes more sense to program the AMS to either display or not display the clock rather to draw power or not to draw power (less code to do the first one, and less space required).

No, it doesn't use up batteries; I have noticed no reduction in battery life at all on my AMS 2.08, and I always leave the clock on. Besides, I would think that if TI made it run all the time and use up the batteries at an astonishing rate, they would find their customer support bombarded. :-)

Your batteries are in use anyways when you turn off the calculator. The increase in the power use necessary to maintain the clock is barely detectable.

The old link software will not find the USB link. you have to use the CD that came with the USB link to download TI-Connect. That is the only program that will use the USB link.

TiLP was updated to include support for the USB link. You have to install non-standard drivers for it, but it works.

You probably have some internal USB connectors (i.e. for some upfront ports that your case doesn't have).

I only use TiConnect because I have the USB silverlink. Are there better silverlink drivers?

The V200 version linked in the article will NOT run on a TI-92+. The TI-92+ version is hidden somewhere in the online store.

The correct IDs for the TI-92+ are: deptid=387&catid=478&sku=798 .
