I wonder how many people actually buy TI apps.

I only use those free apps,
buying a calculator already cost some money...
So... I do not want to spend extra unneeded money.
I think for most apps that is really useful for me,
I can find some programs (calculator or computer)
that is free instead of buying the apps.

That's true... it would be interesting to know how many people do buy the APPS that cost money. Even though, some of them do look very interesting. I especially like the Study Card one. (it's free!)

Didn't someone make an illegal patch thing to put up the apps that cost money up for download?

I remember that... someone said they cracked the code that made the apps ID-specific.

AFAIK, there are two kinds of apps, the free ones, and the ones that you have to pay for. The ones you have to pay for can only be run on one specific calculator, thanks to a unique calc ID. It is possible (and illegal, immoral, unethical, ...) to take such an application (for instance, from one of your friends) and modify it, such that the calc believes it's a freeware app (and will run on any calc).

Why is it that an anti-MV post that was only minutely disrespectful was deleted within two hours, and this First Post! message has been here almost a day? I think that we are more annoyed by First Post messages than almost anything else here other than fraudulent messages.

Um... I thought they already had a Finance APP for the TI-83+... am I wrong?

There is a Finance "app", it's not really an app, but the built-in finance functions are under the Apps menu on the 83+.

This is different though, because it has other financial functions (hence the name). It's more geared towards accounting students for example. When you really start getting into mortagages and bonds, you'd use an app like this to do calculations.

Actually, it may not be hard to just write a program that does the exact same stuff for free. Personally, I think that it is pointless to charge money for apps since anyone can make a program that does the same thing for free and publish it here.

Yes, but some people like to buy stuff from the official site... even though I think that if you can get something that is almost the same for free, then you should try that first.

And that's why open source stuff isn't mainstream yet--people assume that if it's cheap or free, it's worthless.

We aren't "advertising" anything. TI apps generally are news worth posting. I would think that this would be used by the thousands of students in colleges who are majoring in accounting or business. Anyway, it's also interesting to note that this is the highest priced app yet, and ponder TI's strategy of releasing an application that undercuts their BA II financial calculator.

Instead of an undercutting, you could view this as incetive to buy a brand new 83+.

$130 for a 83+ and a flash app. Or $40 for a financial calculator.

Still, I think people wouldn't choose 130$ just for the APP. I got my calculators for programming.

But it isn't $130 for an app, it is $130 dollars for an APP and an 83+.

The biggest advantage of this app is going to be the graphing capabilites.

Not completely true -- possibly for the *3 series (73/83+/se), but not for the 68k series. There, they have $49.50 apps, EE*Pro and ME*Pro, as well as $29.95 apps (Geometer's Sketchpad and Cabri Geometry). So, that's not completely true. Myself, the only boughten app I have is CellSheet, and even then, I only got it for free in the "Euro" offer in the summer.

Your prices are correct. This is the highest priced APP for any z80 calc. But the Geometer's Sketchpad and Cabri Geometry are both included with the calc when you buy a TI-92+ or V200PLT.

I didn't see it as an advertisement when I saw it. ticalc.org has been rather dead on news, so I'm glad to see *anything* [within reason, for anyone who takes that too literally :-) ].

BTW, I think we need another "fake" news article. It's been so long since the last one, IIRC. Let's have a little humor or something.
