Quick Updates
Posted by Nick B. on 30 July 2002, 21:02 GMT

With the last weeks of summer vacation ticking away, back-to-school season is once again upon us. However, the last couple of weeks of July were not completely inactive in terms of new releases, so let's have a look:

  • Joe Flint released The King of Fighters 2000 for the TI-83 and TI-83 Plus. This advanced fighting game has been in development for over two years and includes fourteen playable characters.
  • Greg Dietsche has relased KerNO v2.0. Essentially a kernel (of sorts) that provides features for nostub programs, including ways to break out of ASM programs that are not responsive, removes ASM size limits, and enable ASM programs to return values in expressions. New things in this version include improved keyboard responsiveness, bug fixes, and Voyage 200 support (in the 92+ version). Available for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus.
  • Patrick Davidson has released a slight update to the Phoenix Platinum Edition for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus (which should work on the Voyage 200 as well).
  • Also, calc.org and its hosted sites are now back up, so be sure give them a look.

Hmm, I another reason (KOF) I shouldn't of sold my TI-83+. Any multi-platform ASM programmers want to look into porting it (I'm looking in Patrick Davidson's direcion...)?

I agree, KerNO is cool, the TIGCC team should look at it for stuff to add to TI-Explorer :)

Your BIO says you have a TI-83 and a TI-89, are you suggesting that they port it to the 89? Well, if so they I would download it. It really is hard to "port" a game to a different model, especially one with a totally different assembly language. For example, I had to totally re-write PICROSS 89 (*hint* download *hint*) from the 82, 83, 83+, 85, and 86 versions, so mine is different than the others, but it is still FUN!

Yes, I mean to 89. I'm a C programmer, I thought all ASM programming was the same except for screen differences. Isn't it? I'd really like to be corrected if I'm wrong! BTW, PICROSS sucks.

There is a difference in ASM programming for like 83 and 89. ASM is linked through the processor, and the 83 has a z80 processor, where the 89 has a Motorola 68,000.

I have a list of reason's I don't like it if you are interested. I even half of them are fixed I'ld be willing to say I liked the program.

no save game feature,
no level advancment without completion of a puzzle,
the levels are all easy patterns,
the timer goes too fast,
it crashed me calc,
do I need to go on?

PICROSS doesn't suck! fah q! Anyway, the assembly languages are TOTALLY different for the z80 and 68k. The screen difference is only one of the changes.

Yeah! Someone who thinks all assembly programming is EXACTLY the same doesn't have the right to say that ANY assembly program sucks. BTW, prgmBAD is the best game out there, lol.

Side of the road near an elementary school. It has scratches everywhere and had like OS 1.10 so I cleaned it up and upgraded to OS 1.14 and it looks great. It also handles grayscale a little better than my other 'reconditioned' model that had OS 1.03 (i have the screenshot on my computer somewhere to prove it). The old one is HW-0199A where as the one I found was HW-1299A. Ok?

I don't have a TI-83+ anymore, what are the differences between OS1.13 and 1.14 (I gotta stay in the know)

OS 1.13 added better support for the SE, like a quicker loading apps menu. OS 1.14 is basically 1.13 but with TI-Connect capabilities... and... yeah.

The support isn't too good...it takes about 2 seconds to load/refresh the apps menu on my SE.
